This is very possible. My friend with a PhD degree recently joined Google.
He told me that in the same group there are 10 SW engineers, out of whom 8
have PhDs and two have MSs. But the manager only has a MS degree.

做码工的话，经验更重要，PHD学位没有很大的优势

查fresh，所有条件一样，只有ms和phd不同，给出的统计数据也是一样的，只是估计的
个人工资ms要高点。
我可以理解待遇差的专业phd多，职位高的人里ms比例高。但条件都一样的话，难道因
为phd从事的职位都比较烂？

some phds choose research jobs and postdocs which have low salary but
possibly great long term payback potential, like the chance of becoming a professor. As for programmers or other high-tech engineers, most big companies pay 15k-20k more for fresh phds than MS. Whether that is good enough for the extra years is difficult to say. It depends on people's priorities.
