say that you graded all exams in a consistent way. so just giving him/her
credit is unfair to others.
another approach (i have not used) is to specify before hand (e.g., in the
syllabus) that any request to regrade the exam is subject to regrading of
the whole exam, not just the questions at issue. that way, you may deter
quite a lot requests.
