Mangrove forests can be seen in the Dongzhaigang National Nature Reserve, which is called "a paradise for plants and animals" by Nathan Williams, a reporter at China Daily.

“You'll find many magical animals and plants in mangrove wetlands. Some plants grow just like animals, which is quite fascinating. As you can see, many 'babies' are in the making here,” Feng Erhui, a forest engineer, told Williams.

The tide contains a certain level of salt. Plants excrete salt through their glands and retain freshwater to help themselves grow.

"This year, we've found 26 white spoonbills landing here, an unprecedented peak recorded in Hainan," Feng said.
