英文介绍
Join us for a conversation with Peter Diamond on May 4 at 7:30 PM. In this Science Cafe we’ll learn about his life journey, search theory, Social Security and contemporary macroeconomic issues. We look forward to seeing you there.
Professor Peter Diamond is a long-time resident of Lexington. He is an Institute Professor Emeritus and a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Economics at MIT. He was a co-recipient of the 2010 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences for his work on theories involving frictions in search markets. He is also an expert in the U.S. Social Security system and has advised government agencies on the program.
Professor Diamond received his bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Yale and Ph.D. in economics from MIT. He was an assistant professor of economics at U.C. Berkeley before returning to MIT as an associate professor. He retired from MIT in 2011, having taught there for more than 40 years. Aside from the development of economic search models that incorporate “real-world frictions”, he has taught and worked on public economics throughout his career, including analyses of taxes, government spending, and the public debt. Professor Diamond is also well known for his work and analyses of social security systems in the U.S. and around the world. Through his expertise, he served as an advisor to federal government’s Advisory Council on Social Security in the 1990s. He has more than 150 academic papers and has written 12 books and many reports and briefs.
This is a hybrid program - you can attend in person (in the Living Room space), or watch via Zoom. If you are attending via Zoom, please register to receive the Zoom link. In-person attendance is on a first-come basis.
Registration for all Science Cafes can be made online through the Cary Library Events and Programs page. You must register if attending via Zoom. Although registration is not required to attend an in-person program, it enables us to notify you if a program is postponed or cancelled.
