毕业季来临，你的毕业论文写完了吗？

近日，中国青年报社会调查显示，没有修完学分或没完成学位论文是大学生延毕的首因，64.1%的受访毕业生表示花了两个月及以上撰写毕业论文。

又到了广大学子为了论文挑灯夜战的时候，写初稿、改论文、查重、答辩，这写的哪里是论文，写的是青春啊……

dissertation

作为一个正式用语，我们一般可以在书面表达中见到dissertation这个词。它主要指那些为了获得学院和大学学位而完成的原创文章，一般是1-2万字。

想想自己的学位论文，你就能知道这类文章的特点了。

在英式英语中，本科和硕士论文叫做dissertation；在美式英语中，博士论文用dissertation。

thesis

这个词也用来指毕业论文、学位论文，不过比起上一个词，thesis的篇幅就更长了，它字数要求10万字左右。

因此，它的内容也就更详细更深入，要求更系统的研究调查和数据分析。

A long piece of writing based on your own ideas and research that you do as part of a university degree, especially a higher degree such as a PhD.

当然，这个词也能表示陈述自己观点的文章，相信大家对于thesis statement这个短语都不陌生吧。

An idea or theory that is expressed as a statement and is discussed in a logical way.

在英式英语中，博士论文用thesis；在美式英语中，本科和硕士论文用thesis。

作为典型的外来名词，thesis复数形式是theses哦，像analysis一样的不规则变化。

因为不同的教育体系采用不同结构，所以学术术语的定义也有所不同。不同的国家、不同的大学、不同的项目，对论文的要求可能不同，具体还要看你所在大学的具体要求。

我们可以把article看作是个综合性很强的词。

它的目的是展示事实、信息、新闻，是一种直接的知识，往往具有六要素（who，what，when，where，why，how），比如：在报刊、杂志上发表的新闻报导、学术论文等。

essay

对于essay这类论文来说，最大的特点是短。

A short piece of writing by a student as part of a course of study.

A short piece of writing on a particular subject, written in order to be published.

我们几千字的短篇论文，课程论文是它，杂文、散文、评论等观点类短文也是它。
