“山河大学”为何突然爆火？教育部回应

伴随着高考志愿填报工作的火热进行，一所虚拟的“山河大学”也在互联网上火了起来。

"Shanhe University", an imaginary university created by students to serve the people of Shandong, Shanxi, Hebei and Henan provinces, has become a meme online.

7月6日上午，国新办举行“权威部门话开局”系列主题新闻发布会，有媒体现场提问有关“山河大学”的问题。

It has also caught the attention of the Ministry of Education, which responded by stressing the need to increase higher education resources in populous regions.

教育部副部长吴岩表示，我们也关注到了关于“山河大学”的问题，面对高等教育进入普及化新阶段的新形势和服务区域经济社会发展的新挑战、新问题，教育部将围绕增强国家的竞争力、服务经济社会发展的重大战略、促进全体人民共同富裕的目标，不断优化高等教育资源的布局结构，支持中西部地区，特别是人口大省，扩大高等教育资源的规模，优化类型结构和区域结构。

At a news conference on Wednesday, Wu Yan, vice-minister of education, said the ministry is aware of people calling to establish such a university. The ministry supports regions in central and western areas, especially populous provincial regions, to expand the scale of their higher education, he said.

一天建成一所大学

据央广网报道，“山河大学”源于网友的玩笑——山东、山西、河南、河北四个省份的343万名考生，每人出1000元，总共是三十多亿元，就可以打造出一所四省交界的综合性大学，面向“山河四省”招生。

It began when a group of students posted jokes online about the possibility of setting up a university. They hoped to dedicate it to students from the four provinces of Shandong, Shanxi, Henan, and Hebei, where competition for China’s national college entrance examination, or the gaokao, is fierce.

Netizens have joked that if each high school graduate in the province donates 1,000 yuan ($138), there would be more than 3 billion yuan, enough to establish Shanhe University, located in a way that overlaps the four provinces and that could admit more graduates from the regions.

很快，这一设想便得到了网友们的热烈响应。他们纷纷出谋划策，为山河大学确定了校训（motto），设计了校徽（emblem），制定了“三年超清华、五年赶北大”的教学目标，甚至还为这所大学创建了专属网站和招生简章（an admission brochure）。

The meme quickly captured the imagination of Chinese students across social media platforms. Soon, many began enthusiastically contributing to its development. Along with the motto and emblem, a website was created with faculty lists and even an admission brochure.

在校历短短五小时之时，山河大学的方方面面都已经被网友考虑周全，乍一看真是所像模像样的大学。

在基于网络的软件协作平台GitHub上，还有网友为山河大学开发了一个招生网站，并精心设计了一份综合性的“课程表”。

On GitHub, the web-based software collaboration platform, individuals developed an admissions website and crafted a comprehensive curriculum.

随后，网友们还将来自“山河四省”的著名历史人物编入校友名册当中，其中便有家喻户晓的教育家、思想家孔子（Confucius）和汉代将军霍去病。唐代诗人杜甫则被任命为山河大学的校长，因为他那经久不衰的诗句完美诠释了这所大学的精神：“安得广厦千万间，大庇天下寒士俱欢颜。”

Du Fu, the Tang Dynasty poet, was named Shanhe University’s principal, as his timeless verse perfectly captured the university’s ethos: "Could I have a grand mansion, spanning a thousand rooms, I would shelter all scholars in the world, making them beam with smiles."
