In the first half of 2023, China's film industry has seen a surge in hit movies, delivering both critical acclaim and box office success.

As the summer season gives way to the National Day holiday film season, the second half of the year promises a cinematic spectacle with ten highly anticipated releases.

Four years after its production, director Zhang Yimou's film "Under the Light" is now set to release on Sep 28, during the Mid-Autumn Festival.

This film features an impressive cast of veteran actors, including Lei Jiayin, Zhang Guoli, and Yu Hewei. This combination of such esteemed actors and Zhang has garnered significant attention. As of Sep 11, the total number of viewers interested in the film on both the Maoyan and Taopiaopiao platforms has reached 270,000.

Based on the theme of combating corruption and crime, the movie revolves around the investigation of a complex criminal case with far-reaching implications. The story follows Su Jianming (played by Lei Jiayin) and Li Huilin (played by Zhou Dongyu) as they join forces to uncover hidden threats and powerful organizations and groups.

In commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the conclusion of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea (1950-53), director Chen Kaige's film "The Great War" is scheduled for release on October 1st, coinciding with China's National Day holiday.

This film primarily revolves around portraying the collective image of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army, offering a panoramic view of the heroes and heroines who defended their homeland on various fronts during the first anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. It depicts the epic scale of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea. The trailer showcases the meticulous production and breathtaking scenes.

Featuring an impressive cast, including box office heavyweights like Wu Jing and Zhang Ziyi, as well as emerging talents Zhu Yilong, Zhang Songwen, Zhang Yi, Wei Daxun, and Wang Chuanjun, this film is set to leave a profound impact on audiences.

From "Lost in the Stars" to "No More Bets," movies based on real-life cases have consistently held audiences spellbound. This National Day holiday season, a new riveting movie joins the ranks: "Moscow Mission," helmed by director Qiu Li-tao and co-produced by Han San-ping and Andy Lau. It's set to hit theaters on Sep 29.

This film draws inspiration from China's first cross-border pursuit case, bringing the sensational "Sino-Russian Train Heist" to the big screen. The cast features Andy Lau, Zhang Han-yu, Wen Yong-shan, and Huang Xuan, guaranteeing an exhilarating cinematic adventure.

The creative team has meticulously recreated the unique ambiance of the 1990s, paying attention to every detail in set design, costumes, and makeup, effectively transporting the audience back to that era.

On August 14th, the fourth installment of the "Ex-Files" movie series, titled "The Ex-Files 4: Marriage Plan", announced its release date for Sep 28. This marks the return of the "Ex-Files" film series to the big screen after a six-year hiatus.

Currently, the film is the most highly anticipated mainland Chinese movie on platforms such as Maoyan, with over 2.09 million viewers expressing interest.

After a six-year absence, the protagonist, Meng Yun (played by Han Geng), enters a new chapter in his love life. Faced with pressure from his family to get married, Meng Yun undertakes a fresh journey with a determined spirit and questions like, "Why should I get married?" to propel the storyline.       

The only comedy film in the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day season, "Lose to Win", produced by Mahua FunAge, is scheduled for a nationwide release on Sep 28.

The movie reunites the original production team of " Too Cool To Kill" and features Xing Wenxiong, the director of "Too Cool To Kill", as the screenwriter and producer.

The film is an adaptation of the Spanish comedy film "Campeones" (Champions) and tells the story of Wei Guozheng, an overconfident basketball coach who encounters a group of "underprivileged" players. As they navigate their daily interactions filled with misunderstandings and embark on a seemingly impossible basketball training journey, they come together to achieve an extraordinary goal.       

Jointly produced by Paramount Pictures, Nickelodeon Movies, and Spin Master Entertainment, the new film "PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie", adapted from the beloved children's animated series "PAW Patrol", is scheduled for release on Sep 29.

The familiar slogan, "No job is too big, no pup is too small," has not only become a mantra for kids but also a trending catchphrase across social media.

In this new installment, the PAW Patrol pups unexpectedly acquire superpowers, and their equipment receives a comprehensive upgrade. Audiences of all ages can anticipate witnessing the PAW Patrol team in action like never before as they embark on an exciting and action-packed adventure together on the big screen.
