APAD: Politics is full of drama; drama is full of politics
I am reading a book 《城门开》by "北岛“. It's a well written memoir about his youth in Beijing, full of humour and interesting stories. There is one sentence in the book that caught my eye: "政治充满了戏剧性,戏剧充满了政治性“. Interesting and wise, I thought - there must be an English proverb about it, too. I searched but failed to find one.
So here it is - Politics is full of drama; drama is full of politics, I made one by direct translation.
First, politics is really full of drama. Looking at the recent US presedential debate between an 81 year old and a 78 year old, full of drama and yet so hard to watch. Also the French general election which just finished 3 days ago, two of the left parties made a pack of alliances: running just one candidate between the two parties in each riding so they would beat the far-right , and they succeeded dramatically. CNN called it "France’s shock election".
On the other side, drama can be full of politics. Just by looking at Shakespeare's plays: Macbeth, King Lear, King John, Henry IV,V,VI, and VIII, Richard II and III. They are all about rulers' infighting and politics in history.
Actually I'm not knowledgeable in politics nor in drama. Both are very complicated and I know my limit, so I better stop here.
Wish you all a good Wedsnesday, be it with politics or drama or not !
