George Michael的这首歌是为他的同性伴侣Anselmo Feleppa而写的，在Anselmo身上，George Michael第一次无条件地深深爱上一个人。Anselmo因艾滋病并发症而去逝，他的病逝多年以后，一直让George Michael的灵魂得不到归属。

其实，大家还不知道George Michael是gay，他自己也是在多年的自我困惑中才接受自己的性倾向的。

但是他的性倾向已越来越成为大众和媒体的话题。

最近，也关注了一些关于同性恋方面的话题。对一个在成长过程中没有宗教和怀疑性倾向背景下长大的人，很难对异性恋之外的性爱形式有所理解。

常觉得同性恋是先天的吗，还是后天诱导的结果。

也有一些朋友和同事或同学是同性恋，通过George Michael后面的come out，才真正的来认真看待这一群体。

其实以前在George Michael日益窜红的时候，没人意识到他是gay，其实他自己也是经历了非常痛苦的自我怀疑，自我否认，痛苦疑惑，和最后接受的复杂过程。

在一次CNN采访时，他提及在27岁时，就有过一次同性恋体验；到意识到自己是gay时，他就没有再dating girls，因为他已认同了自己是gay这一事实。他说：他的歌看起来是写给女性的，实际上是写给男性对象的。

当时的英国，同性恋群体艾滋病流行，包括他的巴西男友就死于同性恋并发症；没人公开自己的同性恋身份。

George Michael是一个典型的hobbit型英国男人，非常随意自然，down to earth；但同时又是个非常顽固，原则性很强，特立独行，只按自已常理出牌的音乐人。他自己控制每一作品的音乐production，从一开始就确定了他作品的质量和个人风格，当然也让其它想在他身上赚钱的媒体机构不满。George Michael也是个非常注重个人隐私的人，他觉得外界没必要介入他的私生活，他对自己的名声，财富，以及音乐生涯，当时稳定的感情发展感觉满意。

1998年4月7日，George Michael加州Beverly Hills的Rogers Memorial 公园的公共洗手间被捕事件，直接把George Michael推到风口，让他成为举世观注的笑话。

对一个智商极高，思想自由，秉持个人创作源于生活的George Michael来说，他并没有回避矛盾，而是直接以自己的音乐—也就是半年以后创作出来风靡全球的位居英国音乐排行榜第一的歌曲outside来作为回击。

在歌曲里，首先，他承认他是同性恋，公园的事情是他所为，他对自己的同性恋身份毫无羞愧。

其次，他想质疑的是：国家机器无处不在，他们不光监管偷窥同性恋，也渗透到社会的不同角落，如公共场合的夫妻，压抑的个体；而警察自己却在无人注意下，搞起同性恋。

在这首歌曲里，他穿上了警察的服装，边歌边舞，并将厕所变成迪斯科舞厅，还插入了真实的当时媒体报道的信息，还调侃地戏称自己完成了社区服务。歌曲的曲风欢快与幽默， George Michael好象又回到了以前唱wake me up before you go-go的时又唱又跳很funkin'孩子。

这真是让举世惊掉了眼镜，这也太实诚了吧。

在一次采访的时候，George Michael也承认，他的outside就是一个报复，他let it a go! 那个卧底的警察后面诉讼他，要求赔偿，但未果。至于他公共厕所的行为，他后面也解释了。人在depression的时候，做出的有些事情是意想不到了。这我相信。如皇后乐队Freddie死后，其它三个人都经历了depression，谁也没想到有六个孩子的john会在外面包养个艳星。George Michael调侃得也很有趣：他对免费的漂亮男人，并不拒绝。哈。

George Michael被捕事件对他个人的声望毫无影，Outside一曲的走红也许是音乐界历史上最著名的针对对个人羞辱反败为胜的案例了。这首歌也为George Michael赢来了举世的尊重和热爱，因为他的作品表现了他的坦诚，不屈人格与而对来国家机器压力的不懈回击的作风。这也再次证明George Michael作为一个自由独立的音乐人的票房价值。

我喜欢George Michael，除了喜欢他特立独行音乐人的人品和风格，也喜欢他知道自己是谁，愿意做什么。

除了音乐，他对政治的认识也很深刻。他早就提醒媒体界了：Trump的种族主义言论会打开潘多拉的魔盒，当今社会思想的自由与宽松，是几代人努力出来的结果。

2016年圣诞节那天他去世，那晚他的伴侣睡在车里，他早期Wham!的歌曲Last Christmas是圣诞期间的经典传唱，估计这样的处境与结局对所有他的忠实粉丝来说，都是个沉重的打击。斯人已逝，但他的音乐就是留给世人的最宝贵的财富。

到现在，我们还在听他，还在怀念他，就因为他的音乐告诉我们：要活出自我。
