PhD opportunity at the Institute of Computational Comparative Medicine and
Department of Diagnostic Medicine/Pathobiology at Kansas State University
A Graduate Research Assistant’s position (3 to 4 years) for a PhD student
is available in the Institute of Computational Comparative Medicine and the
Department of Diagnostic Medicine/Pathobiology at Kansas State University.
The ideal candidate will have a DVM or equivalent degree; training in
research or population health through an MSc or MPH degree or professional
employment; and quantitative skills evidenced by either formal education or
research publications. Only exceptional candidates with a BSc and MSc/MPH
may be considered.
The main quality sought in the candidate is the ability to apply
quantitative thinking to biological questions, in terms of both
conceptualizing and executing such investigations. The focus area for the
PhD research can be either antimicrobial resistance in animal bacteria (
inclusive of antimicrobial use, and commensal or pathogenic bacterial
ecology, transmission, evolution), or emerging and foreign animal infectious

The Institute http://iccm.k-state.edu/ is co-located with the Nanotechnology Innovation Center of Kansas State http://nicks.ksu.edu/. This provides a wide variety of equipment for research investigations using methods of pharmacology, microbiology, nanotechnology, and high performance computing. Expertise in these disciplines, as well as in epidemiology, infectious disease modeling, biostatistics, bioinformatics, molecular simulation, population pharmacokinetics, and physiologically based pharmacokinetic modeling is available to support the candidate’s research development.
