不知道算不算黑人说的一点证据# Economics - 经济

Chicago accounting今年给了三个faculty offer,一个theorist,,两个empirist,结果
三个都没去，theorist去了Stanford, 两个empirist一个MIT一个Harvard.MIT和Harvard
的accounting无论从哪个方面都无法和Chicago比，Stanford的也不比Chicago强，而且
去Stanford的theorist是Kellogg毕业的，在Chicago应该对和她老板co-author paper
更方便吧。至于教书那三个学校也没有undergraduate,而MBA的expectation决不会比
Chicago低，因此感觉还是Chicago的黑人问题吧，不过有待我下次见了人证实，但是
我想不出还有什么原因。

i don't think the bad neighborhood you referred to is a main reason for
those people's choices. stanford has stronger theory people than chicag
o for sure. harvard is a different kind of school and people go there f
or the glamor more than academics. mit is at least equally as good as c
hicago. one thing i can think of is, chicago is notorious in its treatm
ent of junior professors. the record of not giving tenure and kicking p
eople out might have swayed some people's decisions.

Basically the point from you is there are too many factors which could be
very difficult to control for. I agree with that.

I can give you a true story which helps you understand this from different
angle, rather than focus on your idea of black people effect. First of all,
those decisions are very indiosycratic and cannot be accommodate by a single
effect.
Once upon a time, an econ guy got many top offer, like Princeton, Wharton,
Chicago GSB etc. He chose an dept ranked like 12. When people asked him
why, he said because his girlfriend liked that place (in fact, t
hat place has many black people), and the teaching

People on the job market don't know about the neighborhood anyway. How it is
and how it affects life will be revealed to him/her gradually. So I think it
is pointless to base the argument on the job market for new faculty. The job "
market" for seniors, however, may provide evidence, for or against the
argument.
Let me offer a test for this theory. Let's first assume that the job market
for the established seniors is in a kind of equilibrium, in which there is no
systematic incentive for anyone

I am not saying that for general. For Shin's case, Chicago accounting
is looking for a distinguished theory senior faculty for years, so
they are more eager to hire Shin and that's what I heard,which might not
be true.

I partially agree, but I mainly study his papers in accounting courses
and in all other econ and finance courses I have taken, nobody mentioned his
papers. Surely this only reflects some professors preference in designing
courses

I agree with your comment on Chicago GSB and the first point.
I don't agree with your opinion that MIT accounting is better than Chicago.
MIT has no theorists, and for empirists the best one, Kothari, is not
as good as Ray Ball or Abbie Smith in Chicago. This can also be
judged from the placements of their Ph.D students. Chicago's job market
candidate last year went to Columbia and candidate this year will go to
Wharton, while job market candidates from MIT even rarely got interviews
from those

I agree with your comment on Chicago GSB and the first point.
I don't agree with your opinion that MIT accounting is better than Chicago.
MIT has no theorists, and for empirists the best one, Kothari, is not
