We do not have enough information here. Why don't you tell us:
1. What happened.
2. Who are the parties involved and which states they are from.
3. In which court do you want to sue.
4. What do you want to get out of the suit.
Also, remember, many people here are law students, and technically speaking we
are prohibited from giving you any legal advice. If you are serious about
your
suit, you should talk to a real lawyer, which will cost you.

I think the original post asked for the application of that rule in his/her
"case", not semantic meaning. Fact is what matters the most, instead of the
rule. So it makes sense that otheme asked about the situation. Otheme was
offering help and he also stated that a "real" advice should be from a "real"
lawyer. I don't think he's that interested in someone's story that doesn't
concern him anyway.

Just curious, why is a law student prohibited from giving legal advice?
I suppose there is no similar rules for laymen, right? that is, I can
tell friends whatever I think if he/she is involved in a lawsuit.
don't take me wrong. I'm pretty interested in us law system so would like
to know the answer. by the same token, I suppose a medical student can
give medical opinion without violating any rules, right?

"giving legal advice" has legal conotations.
of course, everybody can give an "opinion" on something, but if you rely on
someone's "opinion" and suffered injuries, whose fault would that be?
that's why ABA prohibits non-attorneys from giving people "legal advices" in
the legal sense. there was a time in the past, however, when everyone could
play the role of a lawyer in court. not any more.
similarly, medical student can't treat patients without supervision of a real
doctor? they can't pres

several cops have stopped me before and told me I can't
speed when driving a car. should ABA sue those cops because
they were not attorneys and gave me legal advices?

I've heard if you get a cold and ask your medical school
student friend, she can't say any words what to do... must
keep mouth wide shut... :)

this comes a real serious issue. it's okay to tell OP
what that sentence means, but it's really bad to ask
the detail and likely private questions (and in public)
without establishing an attorney-client relationship
first.
if otheme doesn't understand this most basic rule,
I wonder how s/he could become a lawyer.
if the answer to the question is not straight forward,
s/he could just answer like "this sentence typically means
xxx, but exact meaning would be depending on your specific
situation

then why did s/he ask even s/he has no slightly intention to
