i applied for OPT as a PhD candidancy last oct and it's approved one month
later.My EAD card shows it's valid from Jan 3,2005 to Jan 2, 2006. Later, i
got my MS and wanna quit from Phd program. The thing is that our dept knows
that and refuses to register the PhD candidancy for me this sememster; but the
our internatinal center emailed me as follows:
Dear xxxx
Our records indicate that you have not registered for the Spring 2005
term. You need to be registered for the PHD Candidacy course to
ma

There are two kinds of OPT, pre-completion and post-completion, and I don't
remember the difference. But it doesn't matter. What your international office
told you should be the authority.
Sometime it happens that the person you talk to is inexperienced and should be
suspected. But there should be someone in the office who knows exactly how it
works. Be persistent to find out.
So go and talk to them seriously NOW.
