Last year there was not much discussion on this, and nobody really
questioned this word.
Here's the list of most posts last year:
http://www.mitbbs.com/bbsdoc1/Translation_201_0.html
aiyayayaya volunteered to translate section 1.6:
http://www.mitbbs.com/article_t/Translation/31127055.html
and I thought of following her standard, but she actually did it later than
me, and she used the word "auditing" to be consistent with my translation:
http://www.mitbbs.com/article_t/Translation/31127135.html
Here's a discussion post on words to use:
http://www.mitbbs.com/article_t/Translation/31132511.html
Now the English version of last year's report is already online, using "
auditing" as it's us who translated it:
http://www.ocef.org/images/OCEF/annual-reports/2010+OCEF+Annual
http://www.ocef.org/images/OCEF/annual-reports/ocef%202010%20wo
This FAQ on OCEF website, No. 12 on page 3, used "system of supervision and
inspection", about the same function that we are concerned here:
http://www.ocef.org/images/OCEF/english/faq-general-en.pdf
Its Chinese version is at
http://www.ocef.org/media-center/faq/160
No. 15: 请谈谈你们的经验和监督制度建设
The translation is not word for word, and perhaps "inspector" is also good.
Well, an "inspector" may mean someone who's more official like a policeman,
and an "auditor" is more civilian.
I think that you can make a decision and we can stick with it once and for
all.
