在没有方向的风中,开始跳舞吧(t)(3)# Translation - 译林

I sprang to my feet from the dry reeds at the appearance of the king and the
girl. A long and pleasant dream seemed to have swept away my blues presently.
“This is Ithil.” said the king.
The girl panted, perhaps because she had just climbed onto the roof.
“Nice to meet you, young lady.” I greeted her.
“Nice to meet you.”
Her voice came half an arm beneath my eyes. I leaned forward to listen
closely. Her silvery voice was tinged with huskiness typical for youth. She
must be about 15 or 16

one can say 'spread rumors' but I don't feel all right with
'spread corners'. if you want to use be gone, you'd use 'was gone' I think.
I found the cambridge dict pretty handy too.

it's all right to have a comma btw a long zhu3yu3 and the following weiyu and
bingyu. i saw it pretty often. you can also have commas to divide zhu3yu3
itself.
say: "a, b, and c, are blah..blah." they are grammatically correct.
ofcoz to polish style is another case.

b, c can be xiu1shi4yu3 for a.
ex: "Sir Walter Elliot, of Kellynch Hall, in Somersetshire, was a man who, for
his own amusement, never took up any book but the Baronetage."

hehe b,c can be either parallel or subjective to a.
"A quarter of an hour, twenty minutes, passed away.." (parallel)

i noticed your correction to my piece.
hmm yesterday checked three novels, "princess bride" - american popular
fiction.
"dance, dance, dance"- translated from japanese,
"remembrance of things past"-translated from french.
this structure appeared in all the three, especially in the first, on almost
every page. and its author is a reputated playwright whose works won oscar.
he messed up grammar so obviously? i am freaked out.
so whose is right neh?//think not hard

我在网上查了一下关于复合句(comlex sentences)的用法。
首先一点,复合句一般可以用1,分号或者2,逗号后的
并列连词(coordinating conjunction)分割两个子句。常用的并列连词
有and 和 but. (The others are or, for, yet, and so.)
Quote:
"When you compound whole sentences, a comma before the conjunction
marks the place where one clause ends and the next begins. When more
than two sentences are compounded, the conjunction usually appears
between only the last two, while the others are separated by commas.
"
所以你举的后两个例子其实是有连词的。前三个出自同一部作品,也许有作者
的个人偏好问题。我觉得他是为了强调动作的因果关系,其

it's safer to stick to strict grammar instead of playing around. just there's

alas, they might be all mistakes or peculiar occurences.

i've seen 1,2,3,4,5,6,7. in a good writing piece. but it is like
a is this, b is that, c is this, d is that.
also seen a lot of things like "a did 1, doing 2, doing 3... "
"I retreated from the room, walking towards(pass? by?) the stairs." is
passable, me think.
we do read a lot, literature/written or just everyday english. but we don't
pay attention to the grammer that much. :/

let me make a summary out of our discussions.;P
according to strict classic grammar, we can have:
a is this; b is that; c is this; d is that.
a did this, did that, ....and (but, then, etc. conj.) did that.
a did this, doing that.
but in literature and everyday english, grammar goes loose, and the following
types are not rare:
a is this, b is that, c is this, d is that.
a did this, did that.
moreover, grammar in e. fanfic can be careless. i was corrupted by them.;P

just saw this in a sw fanfic:
"The former padawan watched him through the window, smiling indulgently, and

em, if you are wondering, "padawan" means jedi apprentice. former padawan
means, in here, a jedi just kneighted, meaning that he has graduated, achieved
independence, and can have apprentice of his own. sounds like a phD hehe.
