Job Description
PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION
The Transmission Analyst is responsible for supporting transmission team in
managing congestion risk for Power Team¿s portfolio of supply and
demand obligations. The individual would help facilitate the decision making
process of financial transmission rights procurement. Run LMP models to
support transactional decisions and perform studies to determine congestion
drivers. Support trading desks with day to day congestion changes and the
impact on the power market and/or to power Team¿s portfolio. Enhance
the profitability of Power Team risk book by participating in the purchase
of congestion option rights and identifying trading opportunities based on
transmission analysis. Participate in transmission and congestion related
regulatory issues discussion. Contribute to process improvement
recommendations.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
1 Develop and maintain inputs to LMP models such as DAYZER and UPLAN to
forecast congestion basis and interpret the results.
2 Support trading teams with daily congestion analysis and communicate all
necessary transmission related information that would impact portfolio
position.
3 Consult with trading teams to develop and implement transmission purchases
and congestion management strategies by participating in ISO Auction
Revenue Rights and Financial Transmission Rights (FTRs).
4 Support trading teams with congestion basis and transmission related
information on transactional opportunities considered in accordance with the
portfolio management objectives.
5 Execute transmission related trading opportunities with adherence to risk
management policy: Daily virtual transactions in participating RTOs and
Monthly and Annual FTRs.
POSITION SPECIFICATIONS
Minimum:
Undergraduate in Engineering degree or similar quantitative discipline.
Experience using nodal production cost software with the knowledge of the
PJM and MISO a plus.
Excellent analytical skills with emphasis on detail and thoroughness.
Applied statistical knowledge and strong computer skills.
Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability
to translate complex study results into usable business information.
Candidate must be challenged within a results-oriented team.
Self- motivated to achieve success in a rapidly evolving environment.
Preferred:
Advanced degree in Engineering or quantitative discipline
Prior FTR trading experience and risk management knowledge.
Familiarity with any of PJM, MISO, ERCOT ISO market rules will be beneficial.
Prior trading experience in multiple energy commodities, both physically and
financially settled.
Experience with system planning studies and knowledge of federal and state
electric utility, planning, sitting and permitting requirements for electric
generator and transmission projects.
