Even in freezing temperatures, 20-year-old university student Liu Yiyang runs three or four times a week through the streets of Beijing.
"I usually run about five kilometers. At first, the cold is challenging, but as my body gets warmer, I get used to it and feel focused and refreshed afterward," he said.

Liu's interest in exercising deepened after recovering from COVID-19, as he realized the importance of a healthy body in combating disease.
"I only had mild symptoms and a low fever, and I know that was not because I was lucky but because I was exercising regularly before."
As a student at the North China University of Technology, Liu also does pushups regularly and to achieve better results, he watches exercise tutorials on short video platforms.
"People tell me that I look more positive and upbeat after working out more often. As a senior undergraduate student, I also rely on running to reduce the pressure of finding a satisfactory job," he said, adding that any unpleasant emotions can be cured by a five-kilometer run.

Hong Xiaoning, 32, said the three years of the epidemic made her more aware of the importance of maintaining a healthy body, both physically and mentally. After working for almost ten years in Shanghai, she started to experience small problems, such as neck pain, lowered immunity and digestive issues.
She has been going to the gym almost every day since November and regularly sees a traditional Chinese medicine doctor. She only drinks hot water, avoids staying up late, makes sure she’s dressed warmly, has physical checkups and cancer screening and sees a dentist regularly.

"I have always believed that life is fragile, and the epidemic has made me pay more attention to my health."
Young people are subject to stress at work and the pressure to marry and have children, which only increases their risks of developing physical and mental problems, she said.
Hong said she is being more careful with her psychological well-being, reading books about psychology, learning how to deal with work stress and to balance her emotions.
"Young people often say they do not have time to exercise, but I believe it is extremely important, so we need to make the time for it, whether that's half an hour of yoga in the morning or an hour of gym after work."

Ye Yuhan, 20, a second-year undergraduate student at Northeastern University in Shenyang, Liaoning province said that he and many of his classmates now have the habit of exercising regularly.
Ye also only suffered a mild COVID infection and recovered quickly, which he also attributed to healthy living.
"I cycle for about 10 km every day at low speed, so that it is not too tiring, and I can sweat a little and improve digestion," he said. "With my earphones on and listening to my favorite music, it is really relaxing."

He also drinks plenty of water and makes sure he eats food lower in oil and salt.
