Haiku For You! A hands-on workshop for all ages

Neighbourhood Haiku Comes to Lexington

Deadline to submit: Wed, 6/1

Embrace the Neighborhood Haiku challenge! It's spring; time to reconnect with neighbors and renew your spirit by writing one or more three-line haiku poems inspired by the distinctive character of Lexington. Capture an experience, place, memory or imagined encounter in 17 syllables or less.

This public art project sponsored by Lexington Council of Arts, brings original poetry to storefront windows! Our jurors will select 30 haiku to be hand-painted on storefront windows as a way to show our local businesses some love and showcase local creativity.

Guest speakers will be James Malloy, Lexington Town Manager, Mike McLean, Lexington

Police Chief, and Michael Cronin, Director of Public Facilities. The panelists will outline the

need for the new facility and the time line that has led to the scheduling of the vote. There will be

time for questions.

Explore the sights and sounds of the ‘Roaring 20s’ at the Society’s All Jazzed Up! Gala. Experience the Depot and Hancock-Clarke grounds in a unique manner as you journey back to the time of flappers, bootleggers, and speakeasies. All proceeds from the fundraiser will go toward the transformation of the Depot into our new education and exhibition center. This is a 21+ event.

Bill McKibben is founder of Third Act, which organizes people over the age of 60 for action on climate and justice.

His 1989 book The End of Nature is regarded as the first book for a general audience about climate change, and has appeared in 24 languages. He’s gone on to write 20 books, and his work appears regularly in periodicals from the New Yorker to Rolling Stone.

He serves as the Schumann Distinguished Scholar in Environmental Studies at Middlebury College, as a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and he has won the Gandhi Peace Prize as well as honorary degrees from 20 colleges and universities. He was awarded the Right Livelihood Award, sometimes called the alternative Nobel, in the Swedish Parliament. Foreign Policy named him to its inaugural list of the world’s 100 most important global thinkers.

The Lexington Farmers’ Market connects residents with local farmers and vendors, providing greater access to fresh, locally-grown and -produced food to community members of all income levels. The LFM educates people about healthy eating, nutrition and sustainable agriculture, and provides a social experience that builds community.

Mandarin-speaking volunteer urgently needed!

Lexingon Farmer’s Market is looking for a volunteer who is fluent in English and Mandarin, can help translate between customers and farmers, to help Chinese-speaking folks to get the most out of their food-shopping experience on every Tuesday 2:00- 4:00pm from May 31 - October 25. If volunteers can commit to 4 week’s during the season, minimum, that would be ideal.

During the summer weather, there’s no better way to enjoy outdoor time with friends and
family than with live music.

We invite you to hire two or more Lexington Symphony musicians to perform a 30-minute concert in your backyard, on a deck, or safely inside your home or event! Celebrate a special occasion, or just gather friends and neighbors to share a live performance in a casual setting.

Takeout Concerts are scheduled based on musician availability and are subject to weather conditions.
