Webinar 

LexPride offers Rainbow Artists as an opportunity for LGBTQ+ youth and allies to learn and grow creative expression skills with a community of peers. An experienced creative expression art therapist and an art therapy intern facilitate the meetings, which take place via Zoom.

During a session, the instructors guide participants through projects while creating a safe environment for conversation. We also bring in special guests to talk about their work and journeys as LGBTQ+ artists.

A StoryWalk is a fun, educational experience for children – and adults – to enjoy reading and the outdoors at the same time. Take a walk along the trail and read and interact with the book as you go! A new book will be replaced there every two months. 

The Lincoln Field StoryWalk is made possible thanks to a collaboration between the Cary Library, Lexington Recreation & Community Programs, the Department of Public Works, and with support from the Recreation and Lincoln Park Subcommittees.  

Summer Science Series

Let’s get the most out of the lovely summer weather and meet outside for some afternoon parent and kid fun!

A science teacher to guide us through some age-appropriate backyard fun science stuff for kids 3+. We will take care of all set up and clean up, but this is a parent-involved event, so come prepared to help your child!

Each week is a new project, so feel free to sign up to more than one event.

Chinese Brush Painting: Landscape with Qingxiong Ma

Time: Fri, 7/9  to  Fri, 8/26 

8 Fridays, 9:30 am - 12:30 pm

Location: LexArt@130 Waltham St

This course will introduce the basics of Chinese brush painting. Students will explore simple landscape painting, with a combination of Chinese brush painting and Western techniques. Using freehand brushwork, the emphasis will be on expressiveness, individual interpretation and abstraction through exaggeration. Students will use ink, watercolor, and gouache on rice paper to create wonderful visual effects. This class will learn to paint trees, woods, mountains and waterfalls. 

USCF Rated Chess Tournament 

Time: Sat, 7/9 10:00 am – 3:00 pm 

Location: Lexington Community Center,  39 Marrett Rd, Lexington 

Sections: You will be able to select this during the registration process.
Unrated (no USCF ID required) , U400, U800 and U1600

All players must have a valid US Chess Federation ID unless playing in unrated. You can obtain one at uschess.org. Registration fee: $25.00

Trophies for the top 3 players. 

All participants must bring their own chessboard and clock. Pizza will be provided for kids. 

The Art of the Flower

Time: Sat, 7/9 12:00 noon – 4:00 pm

Lexington Historical Society, Lexington Field and Garden Club, and  The Munroe Center for the Arts present The Art of the Flower.  Event includes:

Scavenger Hunt - locate inconspicuous flowers within the museum

Garden Tour - find out what Colonial flowers the stewards have blooming

Artists En Plein Air - observe local artists as they paint in the tavern garden

Crafts - Flower coloring cards, and fabric flower-making

This is a free event.

Parachute Party (Entering Grades K - 2)

Time: Tue, 7/12, 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm 

Location: Visitor’s Center Lawn, 1875 Massachusetts Ave, Lexington 

In the event of inclement weather, will move to a large meeting room at Cary Memorial Library, 1874 Massachusetts Avenue, Lexington . 

Have a field day with coordination and cooperation playing parachute games! 

Please register each participating child separately. Accompanying adults should not register but should plan to stay nearby.  This program will be held on the Visitor's Center lawn, please go directly to the Visitor's Center lawn and look for the parachute. In the event of inclement weather, we'll be indoors in the Large Meeting Room.

July Theatre Intensive at Munroe Center 

Time: Mon to Fri, 7/18 – 7/22

3:30 pm – 5:30 pm 

Location: Munroe Center for the Arts 

1403 Massachusetts Avenue

Join us for a fun and dynamic look at the world of theatre! During this class we will work together on scenes to perform at the end of the week. We will use the scripts to learn stage directions and theatre terms. Through improvisation games, character development and fun exercises with our work on the scenes, we'll be guaranteed a entertaining adventure of our own!

This class will take place on our outdoor stage (weather permitting) and the final performance will be at 6:00pm on the Friday.

LexArt Summer Surprise

The New England Sculptors Association and LexArt collaborate to present this juried exhibit of sculpture in all its creative forms. Artists working in a variety of styles and media will be included.

LexArt opening hours: Tuesdays-Fridays, 11am – 5pm. Weekends: 10am – 5 pm.

Babysitting & safety training (age 11 – 15) 

Time: Tue, 7/19 and Thur, 7/21

American Red Cross Babysitting Basics class covers a wide range of information that can help new babysitters gain the skills and confidence needed to care for infants and children. The course includes information on:  how to care for infants and children; what to do in an emergency and how to stay safe; choosing age appropriate activities; recognizing, understanding and handling certain behaviors; basic first aid, epi pen training, hands-only CPR; and how to start a babysitting business.  Upon successful completion students will receive a printable certificate from the American Red Cross.  All equipment and materials provided.

Summer Concert Series by Lexington Chamber of Commerce 

Time: Fri 7/22 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Join the Lexington Chamber of Commerce on Friday, July 22nd, for its third performance in its Summer Concert Series.  

The Chamber's Summer Concerts Series is free to the public and will continue every Friday night July through August and are scheduled from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM.  The Summer Concerts Series has been providing free music for over three decades now and attracts families from Lexington and many of the surrounding communities.  With a variety of musical styles, and a relaxed "picnic in the park" atmosphere, the concerts promote the old-time neighborliness of Lexington.  

Remember to bring your own lawn chairs, blankets, and refreshments. Concerts will be canceled due to inclement weather, and there are no rain dates scheduled.   

Smart Cycling Youth & Parent 

Time: Sat, 7/23 1:00 pm – 4:30 pm 

Location: meet at 139 Dining room, Lexington Community Center, 39 Marrett Rd

Looking for a fun, educational activity to do with your teen/tween? Take this Smart Cycling class together and prepare yourselves for many safe, fun biking adventures to come! 

In this course designed for youth ages 11-15 and their adult parents or guardians, you will learn the rules of the road and safety considerations for biking, proper bike fit, helmet fit, important bike handling skills, basics of bike maintenance, and then enjoy and escorted on-bike road ride to put your learning into practice! 

Bring a bike that is in riding condition, a helmet, and wear closed-toe shoes. Please also bring water and a snack.  

Registration fee, $39 for resident and $45 for non-resident.
