Join the two-day intensive mindful adventures camp that will prepare you for the psychological and emotional challenges of studying in the U.S. Our interactive workshop will guide you through personal, group, and societal challenges. From stress management to navigating American culture, you'll build resilience, confidence, cross-cultural competence, and a supportive network.

Participants and requirements: 参加者和要求
Only high school students/college students (aged 16 or above) who are about to study in the United States are eligible to attend.
仅限即将赴美留学的16岁或以上的高中生或大学生参加。Participants are committed to attending all sessions, and come prepared to participate in group discussions, undertake brief in-class exercises, and share their experience with other learners.
参加者承诺出席所有课程,并准备参加小组讨论、进行简短的课堂练习,并与其他学习者分享他们的经验。

Instructors: 主讲人
Yiyi Chen, also known as Becky, is a dedicated advocate for mental health awareness and well-being in the Chinese education system, with a rich background in educational and psychological research. She graduated from the Harvard Graduate School of Education major in Human Development and Education School Counseling, she earned her Bachelor's degree in Psychology from UC Berkeley with High Distinction in General Scholarship. Becky served on the Education team at UNICEF China and UNRCO, where she’s dedicated to promoting inclusive education and social-emotional learning. She was the Director of Operations at the 14th Harvard China Education Symposium and as a founder of a school counseling project at the Harvard Business School Innovation Lab. She has contributed to academic research as a lab assistant in the Harvard Developmental Psychology Spelke's lab and served as the Academic Principal Assistant at the Shenzhen International Foundation College.

Shenying (Sally) Chen is dedicated to fostering a supportive and enriching environment for Chinese teenagers through her extensive experience and passion for education. With a master's degree in education from Harvard University and a bachelor's degree in psychology from Sun Yat-Sen University, she brings a diverse and robust academic background. Sally has completed extensive coursework in cognitive and educational psychology, enhancing her deep understanding of psychological principles in education. Her experience includes research on test anxiety and teenage gaming behaviors, as well as contributions as a lab assistant at the Harvard Learning, Innovation and Technology Lab. As an Education Consultant, she guides students through the complexities of international education, providing personalized support and mentorship.

Mindful Adventures Camp Overview

Session 1
Who am I? Looking into Self-Identity (我是谁?探寻自我认同)
Aimed at helping students find a better self through American education, this session focuses on self-exploration and understanding the question of who you are. Through interactive activities, students will become aware of their perceptions of self-identity and examine the factors influencing it. This lesson aims to help students answer questions such as: What kind of person do I want to be? How do I want others to see me? Why do I feel proud of myself?
旨在美国教育帮助学生找到更好的自我,本次活动主要围绕学生自我探索,了解自己是谁,等问题进行深入探讨。通过互动性活动,学生能够觉察自身对自我认同的认知,审视影响自我认同的因素。本节课期望帮助学生回答以下问题:包括我想成为什么样的人,我希望别人眼中眼中的我是什么样的人,我为什么对自己感到自豪。
Session 2
Inside out: Understanding and Managing Emotions (情绪管理)
The main goal of this activity is for students to analyze their emotional experiences and feelings, understand their various emotions, and realize that emotions are neither good nor bad. The session will teach them how to cope with negative emotions like sadness and anxiety. During the activity, we will guide students to feel their emotions, learn to accept them, and regulate negative emotions. In a group format, we will provide a supportive community to promote emotional expression and understanding.
本次活动的主要目标为:学生分析自己的情绪体验/感受,了解到自己的不同情绪,明白情绪没有好坏之分,如何正视自我的消极情绪(如悲伤、焦虑)。在活动中,我们会带领各位感受情绪、学习如何接纳自己的情绪、调节消极情绪。以团体的形式,我们为你提供一个支持性的社区,以促进大家对情绪的表达和理解。

Fake news! Managing Social Media Use (社交媒体使用)
In the internet era, almost no one can completely avoid using social media. Social media has a unique role in helping us understand the world and build interpersonal relationships. But how should we distinguish the biased and false information that exists on social media? This activity aims to help students become aware of potential biases in media information, learn how to critically view social media, and become objective and fair digital citizens.
在互联网时代,几乎无人能够完全脱离社交媒体的使用。社交媒体对于我们了解这个世界、构建人际关系等方面都有独特的作用。而社交媒体上存在的各种存在偏差和错误的消息,我们应该如何去辨别?本活动旨在帮助学生意识到媒体信息的潜在偏差,学习如何辩证的看待社交媒体,做一个客观公正的网络公民。
Session 4
Analyzing Personality Theories (如何看待人格测试)
MBTI personalities? Astrology? Are you someone who can talk extensively about these topics? But do you know how professional psychology views these personality tests? This activity will help students scientifically understand existing personality tests. Non-professional personality tests can also be a way to know oneself, but we need to critically consider others' labels and not be limited by them.
MBTI?星座?你是否在这些话题上能大谈一番,但是专业心理学如何看待这些人格测试?本活动将帮助学生科学地了解现有的人格测试。非专业的人格测试其实也是认识自我的方式,我们需要用批判性思维去看待他人对自我的标签,不被标签所限。
Session 5
Navigating Interpersonal Relationships (如何处理人际关系沟通)
Now that we understand who we are, the next step is to think about how to consider issues from others' perspectives and improve our communication skills with others. This activity aims to help students learn how to think when communicating with different individuals and specific communication techniques.
现在我们已经了解我是谁了,下一步我们需要做的是思考如何站在别人的角度思考问题,如何完善自我于他人的沟通技巧。本活动旨在帮助学生学习与不同的个体沟通时如何思考问题,和具体的沟通技巧。
Session 6
Stress Management and Coping (压力管理&应对)
This activity aims to understand the sources of stress and help students quickly understand their stress sources through CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and other psychological counseling methods. Students will also learn about others' stress coping methods, enabling them to better face stress and the challenges of studying abroad.
本活动旨在了解压力的来源,通过CBT(认知行为疗法)以及其他心理咨询手段帮助学生快速了解自我的压力来源,并且通过活动了解别人的压力处理方式,让学生可以更好的面对压力,以及面对留学带来的挑战。
Session 7
Happiness and Positive Psychology (幸福/积极心理学)
Students will learn the definition of happiness from the perspectives of psychology and happiness studies, starting from UCBerkeley Professor Dacher's happiness formula. They will understand the sources of their own happiness. Whether studying abroad or working, life is a beautiful process, and its purpose is to find a personal happiness philosophy.
学生将学习幸福学的定义,从心理学以及幸福学的角度,UCBerkeley教授Dacher的幸福公式出发,了解自我的快乐来源,并且了解自我的幸福的来源。我们人生留美也好,工作也好都是一个美好的过程,其目的是为了寻找一个自我快乐的宗旨。
Session 8
Mental Health Awareness and Personal Sharing (留学生心理问题&个人分享)
As the closing session of this summer camp, we hope to make students aware of potential mental health issues while studying abroad. Personal experience sharing will highlight the psychological changes and stress caused by cultural shock, and the psychological health services provided by American universities and healthcare systems. After this activity, we expect students to pay more attention to their mental health while studying abroad, be able to self-detect potential issues, scientifically self-regulate, and seek help from available resources when necessary.
作为本次夏令营活动的结束,我们希望能够让学生了解到留学的潜在心理健康问题,并且以个人经验分享的方式呈现文化冲击所带来的心理变化和压力,以及美国大学和医疗系统提供的心理健康服务。在本次活动后,我们期望学生在留美期间对自己的心理健康状况有更多的关注,能够自我察觉到潜在状况、科学地进行自我调节,并在必要时能够利用周围的资源寻求帮助。
