APAD: To bite the bullet

Meaning: This expression was originally used to accept impending hardship with
fortitude; but in the modern-day is generally used in lighter terms, such as to
advise someone to do something that they don't particularly want to do.

The proverbial phrase invokes the vivid image of catching an inbound bullet
between the teeth, however impossible. My jaw hurts at the thought.
The phrase also reminds me of the Matrix scene toward the end when Neo could
see the traces of the bullets fired at him from the agents and simply
guestured talk-to-the-hand and the lead froze in mid-air. No need to bite!
