谁能帮我看看这样的信怎么回？

谁能帮我看看这样的信怎么回？# Faculty - 发考题

今天我终于收到一个非常想去的地方的回音了。
那个search committee chair给我发信说觉得我的背景比较吻合，但是他们审理材料很
慢。虽然他会尽量快，但是言下之意是希望我能够多等一等。他还所以问我现在是不
是还没有接受其它offer.
问题是我现在手头有另外一个不是特别想去的offer, 那个地方要求我两个星期给他们
答复。
我如果告诉这个search committee chair另外有一个地方要求我两周内做决定，是不是
反而会起副作用？因为他也许会想反正两周内他们来不及面试我，就算了？
大家看我是提这个offer还是不提好呢？或者说即便提了，也不要具体的说是哪个学校
或者是回复截止日期？

太极之道真是高深啊，看来就是说所有的话说的似是而非，圆润有余，就是最好，是吧
是不是这样回：
I have been in contact with several places, but I am particularly interested
your place. Let me know if there is any information I could provide
regarding my application.

The most difficulty is that You should say to lower Rank offer that
previously You already applied another unit and onsite interview will be
this month, pls permit me to await the output of later one...
PS: the best is to avoid academic moral misconduct!
However, if your last offer is from Cal Tech rank, You should say my spousa
Ask me to go there Bla bla ...
Say No to any former offer Even You signed it previously.

哦，看来签字之前向人家解释自己仍然在尝试其它地方，尽管很难，但这是唯一可以
做的。
一般说过了话，签了字就不能够反悔，尤其在学术界混更要注意。
不过签字以后，如果拿到超级牛校，找个理由反悔也是值得冒险的。
以上理解对吗？

Not sure how other schools deal with this kind of situation. Our department
always want to know more about the candidate's situation. If there is
someone we really want to hire and he/she has a deadline for other offer(s),
the department chair will use this to push the dean, provost, EOD etc. It
will only help to speed-up the process.

that case should be similar or near rank unit,
for example, University of Minnesota, Twin Cities first
and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill ongoing,
you can let UNC dean push stuff,
if the first offer is from WVSU, West Virginia State University Charleston-
metro,
you cann't tell UNC dean you had that offer, you should Move on from WVSU
first.

这样讲是没有用的。你这样讲的意思就是表示你不着急，让他们慢慢来。
你应该说：I will have to respond to other places in very near future, so I
would like to provide any information form my part for you to expedite your
decision process.

I would let them know you already have an offer from another University, but
would prefer to come if offered by this University. This letter indicates
they are very interested in you.
