There is 12-15% unemployment in California and only 9% in NYC and there is a
flood of programmers here because ALL want to get into the financial
industry because it ALWAYS pays more. When you work at the gambling casinos
(the banks) you make more than everyone else because the banks cheat
everyone else.

This is not true.
You can easily get 120K in Cisco/Quacomm, not necessarily in Citi or HSBC.

one truth is
it is more possible to transfer from MS to bank for a coding job. But it is
relatively much more difficult to jump from a bank coder to MS coder.

Can you tell me how much (just a range) an IT support role (MS with 3-5
years experience) can earn (including bonus) on WS? I think MSFT/Google pay
100-160k for those guys, I am surprised to hear WS pay more.
