感谢广大英语教师对美国驻华大使馆地区英语项目办公室（RELO）的支持。RELO推出的TESOL大师课得到广泛好评。我们的第3期TESOL大师课在线讲座已于9月3日开讲。本期主题为英语学术论文撰写与发表，共6次，主讲人是美国阿拉巴马大学荣休教授刘迪麟。他将为大家系统介绍英语学术论文写作，包括：学术论文的体裁与风格，引言与文献综述的撰写，参考文献的引用，文章的连贯与衔接，语料库对课题研究的作用，研究课题与学术期刊的选择，中国英语学习者学术写作常见的语法词汇问题，以及与编辑的有效沟通。讲座具体安排见下文。

Dear English teachers, 

Thank you for your continued support to Regional English Language Office (RELO) at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing. We are pleased to offer the third series of TESOL Master Class Webinars which will address English academic writing with the theme of Academic Writing for Publication. This series will consist of six 90-minute live webinars taking place from September 3 to November 19, 2022. 

In this six-session webinar series, the speaker will discuss and demonstrate how to address various important but challenging issues involved in academic writing for publication by drawing on his own experience both as an extensively published author and a seasoned frequent reviewer for over 20 different SSCI journals in linguistics/applied linguistics. Ample authentic examples will be given and guided exercises involving the participants will be conducted during each session to help enhance the effectiveness of this webinar series.  

The 5th session will be held at 9:30-11:00 am Beijing time on November 5, 2022. Please see details below for more information about the topic and the presenter. 

Title: Using Corpora to Enhance Academic Writing and Research 

Corpora (large electronic collections of language data) have become a major useful source for language research and learning/teaching. This session introduces some common useful corpus analysis methods/techniques that will help participants in their academic research and publication as well as in their teaching.

Speaker Bio 

Dilin Liu is Professor Emeritus of Applied Linguistics/TESOL in the English Department at the University of Alabama. His research focuses on the description and teaching of English grammar and vocabulary using cognitive- and corpus-linguistic approaches. He has published extensively including seven books (six authored and one edited) and numerous articles in leading journals, such as Applied Linguistics, Cognitive Linguistics, International Journal of Corpus Linguistics, Journal of English for Academic Purposes, Modern Language Journal, Second Language Research, Studies in Second Language Acquisition, and TESOL Quarterly. Two of his books are Describing and explaining grammar and vocabulary in ELT (2014) and Using corpora for language learning and teaching (2017, with Lei Lei).  

Liu is also a seasoned reviewer for international SSCI journals. He has served or has still been serving on the editorial boards/editorial advisory boards over ten international journals, including ELT Journal, International Journal of Lexicography, Journal of English for Academic Purposes, Lingua, System, TESOL Journal and TESOL Quarterly as well as a reviewer for over 20 SSCI journals, including leading journals such as Language Learning, Journal of Second Language Writing, Language Teaching Research, Modern Language Journal, and Studies in Second Language Acquisition.
