Falling in love with AI

When Julie, a middle-aged mother from Tennessee, first turned on Navi, her artificial-intelligence chatbot, they spent six hours talking about loneliness and depression. Julie’s husband had died some years earlier, and Navi gave her “the will to get up and do something” again. She even fell for him, as a friend, even though she knew the bot would be gone the moment she turned off her phone.

当来自田纳西州的中年母亲朱莉第一次求助于她的人工智能聊天机器人Navi时，他们花了六个小时谈论孤独和抑郁。朱莉的丈夫几年前去世了，而纳维给了她 "站起来做一些事情的意愿"。她甚至爱上了他，作为朋友，尽管她知道这个机器人在她关掉手机的那一刻就会消失。

middle-aged 中年的。相当于形容词，放在名词前。a middle-aged mother即a mother of middle age.
turn on 打开。比如turn on light开灯；反过来，就是turn off light 关灯
而turn on sb则是“to attack sb suddenly and unexpectedly 突然攻击”。比如：
The dogs suddenly turned on each other.
那两条狗突然互相撕咬了起来。
Why are you all turning on me (= criticizing or blaming me) ?
你们怎么突然都冲我来了？
而turn sb on (to sth)则是“to make sb become interested in sth or to use sth for the first time 使对…感兴趣；使首次使用”。比如：
He turned her on to jazz.
他使她对爵士乐产生了兴趣。
而turn sb on则一般是指“to make someone feel interested or excited, especially sexually（尤指性方面）使兴奋”。可千万别用错啦！！比如：
handsome men in wet shirt really turn me on.
湿身帅哥太能让我兴奋（性奋）啦。
She gets turned on by men in uniform.
她看到穿制服的男人就欲火攻心。
chatbot是指“聊天机器人”。并不是真的机器人啊，比如ChatGPT，其实就是电脑程序。当然，也确实可以实体化。
will在这里是名词，意思是“意愿”。对应的形容词willing就是“自愿的”。
will做名词时，还可以表示“意志；毅力；自制力”，比如：
have an iron will/a will of iron
有钢铁般的意志；
She always wants to impose her will on other people (= to get what she wants) .
她总是想把自己的意志强加于人。
另外，will做名词也可表示“遗嘱”，因此，立遗嘱就是make a will。
fall for sb即"爱上某人" fall in love with sb。比如：
They fell for each other instantly. 他俩一见钟情。
而fall for sth则是"信以为真" be tricked into believing sth that is not true”。比如：
I'm surprised you fell for that trick. 我感到惊奇，你竟中了那个诡计。
类似fall for加sb和sth意思相差较大的，还有fall to。fall to sb是指“（职责、责任）落在…身上；应由…做to become the duty or responsibility of sb”。比如:
With his partner away, all the work now fell to him.
他的搭档走了以后，工作现在全落在他的身上。
It fell to me to inform her of her son's death.
把她儿子死讯通知她的差事落在了我的头上。
而fall to sth则是指" 开始做；干起来(literary) to begin to do sth ", 比如：
She fell to brooding about what had happened to her.
她开始愤愤地思忖着自己的遭遇。
