《芭比》不配奥斯卡最佳导演和影后提名?华裔影后杨紫琼发出疑惑:“怎么能漏掉?” (附视频&对话稿)

第96届奥斯卡当地时间23日公布提名名单,《奥本海默》以13项提名领跑,《可怜的东西》和《花月杀手》分别获得11项和10项提名。《芭比》获得8项提名,但遗憾与最佳导演、最佳女主角两个重要奖项擦肩而过。

《芭比 Barbie》,作为去年称霸全球票房冠军,但影片核心主创的格蕾塔·葛韦格没能提名“最佳导演”,“芭比”饰演者玛格特·罗比也没能提名“最佳女主角”,这两位人气颇高的女性电影人只能作为编剧和制片人,保有夺得奥斯卡的机会。

该片的两首主题曲同时入围奥斯卡,饰演芭比男友“肯”的瑞恩·高斯林也入围最佳男配角奖,对于此次奥斯卡提名,高斯林发表声明称,“肯不能没有芭比,就像没有葛韦格与罗比,就不会有电影《芭比》。如果没有她们的才华、勇气与天赋,这部电影没有可能赢得任何荣誉,我对她们两人没有入围相应奖项而感到失望。”


杨紫琼身为去年的奥斯卡影后,接受「今日肥伦秀」采访时,被肥伦问及《芭比 Barbie》错失最关键的奥斯卡影后、导演提名,她坦言奥斯卡奖向来竞争激烈,「永远没有任何保证,因为你不是唯一的选择,这种情况很普遍」,并说她自己也非常喜欢这部电影,能够入围最佳影片很令人欣喜,「只是你确实会疑惑,怎么可能都被提名最佳影片了,却没有最佳导演和最佳女主角呢?」

不过杨紫琼也夸赞《芭比 Barbie》的票房非常好,证明已有非常多的观众喜爱,「我演电影演了30几年才拿到奥斯卡奖,重点是,不要错过任何一个好故事」。

「尚气」刘思慕去年也有演出「Barbie芭比」,他也惋惜2位工作伙伴与奥斯卡奖擦肩而过,「她们甚至改变了世界,改变了电影工业」。但是资深女星琥碧戈柏则提出不同意见,不认为有任何一部电影被「冷落」,「大家得搞清楚这点,并不是每个人都能获奖,奖项本来就是主观的」。

-He was going to be my partner.  Did you see that sign board that says it's 2024  and Michelle Yeoh can still kick your ass?   

-I did see that sign. 

-Seriously asking for it. 

-That's outside my apartment.

-Really? 

-Yeah, no.   You can, by the way. I have lots of things,  uh, great things that are happening to you  I want to talk to you about. First of all,  and I can't even believe this, but you are a grandma?  Congratulations, bud.  You look fantastic. When did you become a grandma? Tell me about it. 

-Oh, it's quite a story. So, Jean and I,  we got married in July.

-First of all, congratulations.  Yeah, you got-

-Thank you, thank you,  thank you. .    

-So, his son and his beautiful partner Dorina,  they were going to have a baby,  and it was due on the 30th of January.  And I always said throughout the year that,  you know, I would be there for them  because I love kids. I really, really do.  And I said, "I will be your babysitter."  So, we were together for New Year's Eve,  and Nicolas says to me,  "So, Michelle, um, when are you leaving?  I hear you're leaving for L.A."  So I go, "Uh, yeah, I'm leaving on the 2nd to work."  And he goes, "Okay. So, when are you coming back?"  "Oh, I think I'm coming back in- March."  And he goes, "What?  The baby will be walking by then and talking.  What kind of a babysitter are you?"  And then on the 1st, the baby came! 

-Hey! .  Baby heard you.

-He heard me. 

-The baby heard you and said, "Hey, no, no, no.  We're gonna hang out..."

-And we hung out. 

-"...for at least a day."  And here's... Here's you with your grandson.  Aww. Come on.  What does it feel--  Nothing better, right?  There's nothing in the world. 

-I thought nothing would be better than, you know,  what happened last year. It was quite a year.  This...

-No, but this is it.  This is the real win, yeah. 

-This is.

-Uh, I do want to talk about your husband,  because congratulations on getting married,  but I heard that you guys were engaged for-

-  let's see if I can get this, right-

-  19 years?   I'm sorry. I'm sorry, but what?  And how, and what are you talking about?  I mean, wow. 

-We met, and within a month, he proposed, and I said yes.  Because he's the most adorable. He's such a sweetheart. 

-Yeah.

-And then maybe he was just  trying to [bleep] "Do I really wanna do this?"  She's like a mafia. She's so many different things.

-Yeah, 'cause you're always  just kicking someone's butt in a movie  and throwing-

- yeah. So he's afraid of you.  He's like, "Yeah, I don't know if I want to get in this." 

-I don't know.

-But then he just kept  pushing it?

-He was- he's one of the most  patient person in the world.  And I think that's we all deserve  is to have someone who loves us for who we are and what we do.  And we have a busy lifestyle.

-Yeah. 

-And so- but he's always been so supportive.  And, finally, I think he was like,  "Do you want to get married or not?"   

-I mean, it's almost perfect  because here's you're getting married.  And look- the Oscar's right there, by the way.  That's great.  That's so funny. I love that.  "You go, "Oh, I gotta bring the Oscar." 

-Maybe I think we had to wait for that  before we could do it.

-Yeah. 

-Uh, I remember that movie coming out, and Questlove's  saying to me, "This is the best movie.  This movie's insane. Wait till you see this movie." 

-"Everything Everywhere All-" 

-"Everything Everywhere All At Once."  It is insane. And you are insane. 

-Yes, I am.

-You were fantastic in it.  But you- you win the Oscar,  and, immediately, all these billboards  start going up in Malaysia  saying "The Pride of Malaysia, Michelle Yeoh." 

-That's amazing.

-I mean, how does that feel? 

-Uh, it's overwhelming sometimes,  but I think the joy-  The minute I stepped on the stage,  I heard the roar of happiness  all the way from the other side of the world. 

-Aww, come on. That's so fun.

-Because I was so

-It's got to feel great to go home and be like,  "I did this. I did this for you guys." 

-But while I was sitting there,  just before they did the announcement, I was thinking,  "Oh, God, what if I don't win?"   

-You'll never be able to step foot in Malaysia.  Like, "Boo!"   "You let us down!" Yeah.

-"Why didn't you do it?  What do you mean you couldn't do it? 

-You crush it, and you were just great and cool.  And your speech was great. Just-

- You're a class act.  I want to talk to you about "Wicked," too,  because I know you're filming this.  Was filming done or not yet?

-For me, yes.  I just wrapped last week in London. 

-I know you can act, I know you can do action,  all this stuff, but I didn't know you could sing. 

-Neither did I.   When he called me, he says,  I really wanted you to do this for me, with me.  And, you know, read the script." And I'm like, "Jon, for you?"  Jon Chu is

-

- I did "Crazy Rich Asians" with him. 

-"Crazy Rich Asians." Oh, he's brilliant. 

-He is brilliant. He really is truly brilliant.  So I'm like, "For you? Yes! Send me the script."  I read the script. I call him, "Jon,  you realize she sings, right?"   And he goes, "Uh-huh."

-Yeah. 

-[ Chuckles ] I don't sing. 

-You're like, "I'll do anything else."  Yeah, yeah yeah, yeah.

-He's like, "Eh, don't worry."  Then, the next day, I get this video,  and I look at it, and it's like, "Hi, Michelle.  I just have two people here who really wants to talk to you  and tell you why you should be here."  And it was Ariana and Cynthia.  She's like, "It's imperative..."

-Cynthia Erivo. 

-"...that you come and join us."

-Imperative. 

-"Imperative" was the royal word. 

-Yeah, and Ariana Grande, who's just unbelievable.  They're both amazing.

-Cynthia and Ariana  are like angel-  When you walk on and you hear them sing,  it's like you've gone to heaven. 

-I feel like that's extra pressure to walk on set. 

-Oh, no. Hell no.   Like, you're not gonna try and outdo that. 

-Oh, no, no.

-Just like go in, and  "I'm gonna be Jimmy Fallon."   

-Yeah, that's kind of how I do it, yeah, yeah.  Uh, I can't wait to see it.  You got to come back for when that comes out.  But let's talk about this, uh- this new series on Netflix,  "The Brothers Sun." What drew you to do this? 

-Oh. My goodness.  A few very, very good reasons.  The first I must say was Brad Falchuk,  because, you know, I

- You know, when I read  that he was-

- he's the

- This is the first "baby" production  of his new production house.

-Yeah. 

-So I thought, "Well, he's not Asian.  Why is he championing an all

-Asian cast?  There must be something he sees in that.  That must be very special, right?"  Or maybe he is Asian. I don't know.  I'm still working on that.

-Yeah, yeah. 

-But the premise was so exciting.  It's about the Triads,  but at the same time, you take a step back and go,  "This could be a really-"  This is a horrible, gory world.  But they made it- It's dark humor,  and you're going, "Ha ha ha... I really shouldn't laugh." 

-"I shouldn't be laughing," yeah. 

-But the action and all that is incredible.  They have been so creative.  We have, like, frigging dinosaurs,  like, doing martial arts, and... 

-But you've been in some of the most iconic  fight scenes and action scenes. Do you get on set and be like,  "Uh, yeah, I know what I'm doing.  Let's go. Let's do this"?

-No, I get on set and like,  "You better be better than I am, okay?  Or else I am gonna kick your ass."   

-That's so funny. But you're great.  It is-  Some scenes will make you squirm,  but some scenes will make you laugh out loud. 

-Laugh out loud. And the young cast,  like Justin and Sam and Highdee and Alice, and...  Everybody come-

-  They love what they're doing.  And it's so obvious. And they have such a wild time,  which is what we want, right?

-That's what-

-  Anything. Anything we want. Just love what-

- Yeah.  You can tell when someone loves what they do.  It's great. I want to show everyone a clip.  Here's Michelle Yeoh in "The Brothers Sun."  Take a look. 

-Bruce can handle the dropoff.  I need to go on the offense before Sleepy Chan  sends its army after us again.

-Who's Sleepy Chan? 

-No, no, no, no, no, no, no.  Bruce has a very important test today.  8% of his grade. 

-I am in no condition to take a test right now. 

-Baby, get in condition. 

-We are under attack. It's time for Bruce to step up. 

-Bruce is stepping up.  Soon, we will deal with all these problems,  and things will be back to normal again.  And then how wonderful will it be to have a doctor on call?  He is not built for the shady life.  He'd be useless to you. He's soft. Huh?  Look at him. He's skinnier than a girl. 

-Guys...   

-Michelle Yeoh, everybody!  .    "The Brothers Sun" is streaming now on Netflix.  Congrats on everything and grandson  and everything in marriage.  We'll be right back with stand-up from Dustin Ybarra.  Stick around, everybody. Come on back.

Despite "Barbie" being nominated for Best Picture for the 2024 Academy Awards, Margot Robbie wasn't nominated for Best Leading Actress, and Greta Gerwig was shut out of Best Director category.

In the end, these snubs are dispiriting, but utterly unsurprising.

Here's why.

Year after year, the Best Picture race is predominantly occupied by movies helmed by men — white men, more often than not — with only a few women breaking through to secure a nomination.

It's important to note that, in the Academy's 95-year history, only three women have ever won the top prize: Kathryn Bigelow for "The Hurt Locker" in 2009, Chloé Zhao for "Nomadland" in 2021, and Jane Campion for "The Power of the Dog" in 2022.

It's also important to say that, at the upcoming 96th Oscars, French director Justine Triet is the sole woman recognized in the category, and last year, zero female directors were nominated.

This is an obvious and systemic issue! Greta Gerwig is actually a pretty fascinating example of a woman who frequently receives half-hearted, seemingly insincere honors from the Academy without actual, tangible recognition.

Yes, she was nominated for directing "Lady Bird," but she lost to Guillermo del Toro for "The Shape of Water" and was up against only men.

Her sophomore effort, "Little Women," scored a Best Picture nod and ignored Gerwig's considerable work from behind the camera.

Now, with "Barbie," Gerwig has been shut out for her third critically acclaimed film.

The snub is egregious, but it's also par for the course at this point.

"Everything's almost, like, reversed here." Margot Robbie is technically an Oscar nominee at the 96th Academy Awards — but not for her performance in "Barbie." As a producer, she earned a nomination for its inclusion in the Best Picture category.

This is, at face value, pretty shocking ...

especially when you consider that Robbie was, perhaps, edged out by Carey Mulligan in Bradley Cooper's biopic "Maestro", which was met with mixed reviews.

Robbie does something fairly spectacular in "Barbie," considering that she transforms America's most famous doll into a fully realized character.

Robbie's vision of Barbie — aided in no small part by Greta Gerwig's excellent yet unrecognized direction and the script she co-wrote with her partner Noah Baumbach — takes her on a journey that transforms her into a real person, someone desperate to become the one who imagines instead of being simply an idea.

In doing all of this, Robbie commits one of the biggest sins possible in the eyes of the Motion Picture Academy — she's funny.

"I don't have anything big planned, just a giant, blow-out party with all the Barbies and planned choreography and a bespoke song.

You should stop by!" Comedy is so consistently overlooked at the Oscars that when Marisa Tomei won for her pitch-perfect performance in "My Cousin Vinny" in 1992, rumors swirled for years that presenter Jack Palance read the wrong name.

Robbie's portrayal is heartfelt, emotional, and compelling, but she also goes for broad comedy, showing off the full range of her acting ability by combining pratfalls with tearful admissions.

"I'm not used to that having anything in it!" The Oscars rarely, if ever, reward comedy, likely because it's not viewed as "serious" art compared to biopics or movies that make people feel completely depressed.

Robbie's performance being ignored is yet another example of that irritating trend.

Those excusing "Barbie's" egregious omissions in Best Director and Leading Actress might point to the fact that the movie broke multiple box-office records and made Greta Gerwig the first female director to single-handedly helm a movie that crossed the billion-dollar mark.

All of these accomplishments may have hurt its full Oscar potential in the end, though.

Blockbusters, like comedies, were staunchly ignored by the Academy for most of its history — until outcry over Christopher Nolan's universally adored Batman take, "The Dark Knight," won a posthumous acting award for Heath Ledger without managing a Best Picture nomination.

From 2010 on, the Best Picture category expanded to ten potential winners, usually tossing a blockbuster into the fray to appease fans and draw a bigger audience for the telecast.

Movies like "Black Panther," "Top Gun: Maverick," and "Mad Max: Fury Road," just to name a few, were never going to win Best Picture, but were nominated to keep complaints to a minimum.

"Barbie's" billion-dollar box-office haul has relegated it to the "token blockbuster" role this year.

This is made particularly obvious considering that it's nominated alongside several smaller films.

"Oppenheimer" was also a high-grossing cinematic juggernaut in 2023, but unlike "Barbie," "Oppenheimer" is more likely to be regarded as "serious" because it's a historical biopic about the creation of the atomic bomb ...

while "Barbie" apparently loses artistic merit with each dollar it makes.

"Barbie" ended up with Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay nominations, but it also scored two acting nods in the supporting categories.

America Ferrera, who plays Mattel employee Gloria and delivers the film's most memorable monologue, earned her first-ever Oscar nomination for supporting actress.

Unsurprisingly, Ryan Gosling ended up with a nomination for supporting actor — which is a problem.

Gosling's performance is, to be fair, truly excellent.

He shines in every single second of the film, committing to his role as the hapless, horse-obsessed Ken with the utmost passion.

"Horses are just men extenders." "Ohhhh." His "dream ballet," set to the Oscar-nominated original song "I'm Just Ken," is certainly one of the movie's standout moments.

That said, it's a bit on the nose to nominate Gosling and not Margot Robbie, considering that one of the film's main conflicts is that Ken overthrows the matriarchy of Barbie Land to install a patriarchy and become the society's "main character," of sorts.

Nominating the only standout male character from a movie about the female experience — and not the film's lead — is, frankly, insulting, as are the other major "Barbie" nominations.

Unless it pulls a full "Argo," its chances of winning Best Picture are utterly insignificant without Greta Gerwig in the Best Director category.

Its screenplay nod feels like the Academy giving a small consolation prize to a movie that feels too weird or "unworthy" to win the big prize.

Ultimately, "Barbie" being overlooked in majorly important categories isn't all that shocking ...

but it does continue a disturbing, unsettling trend of not taking movies seriously if they're too funny, feminine, or fantastical.
