About
The Mayor's Office is seeking a creative and experienced Digital Director to support the Communications team. The Digital Director provides analysis and recommendations on social media strategies that align with organizational initiatives and goals. The Director will work in the Mayor's Office under the direction of the Chief Communications Officer.
Position
Responsibilities
The successful incumbent will be tasked with:
Setting the Digital Team's goals, priorities, and strategies in conjunction with the Mayor, Cabinet members, and other City departments.
Determining and maintaining Mayor Wu's brand identity and voice across social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok).
Representing the Mayor's Digital Team in City department meetings and external-facing events.
Managing the Digital Team and ensuring professional development, focusing on developing technical and creative skills.
Collaborating with Communications Chief and Mayor Wu to make sure digital plans are aligned with overall communication strategy.
Finalizing social media calendar(s) and providing final edits and approvals on copy, graphics, and video.
Providing support on video editing and graphic design projects.
Identifying appropriate social media channels, designing social media campaigns, tracking performance, and implementing necessary changes.
Communicating with appropriate stakeholders on social media activities.
Acting as primary contact with outside agencies.
Having visibility and accountability to senior stakeholders across the City of Boston.
Performing related work as required.
Minimum Entrance Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and four (4) years of experience or six (6) years of experience working in digital communications, digital marketing, and/or social media, preferably focusing on government or campaign work.
At least two (2) years of supervisory experience required.
Persuasive communications skills.
Strong organizational and planning skills.
Detail-oriented and the ability to meet deadlines.
Project management.
Collaboration and dynamic team-building capability.
Vital data and analytics skills.
Platform mastery of at least three: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, etc.
Experience working with and understanding the voice of a single principle.
Experience managing a diverse team of digital creatives, from graphic designers to video editors to photographers, to execute digital-first communications strategies.
Deep familiarity with social media trends and best practices; and a dedication to creating content accessible to people of all backgrounds and abilities.
Ability to interpret social media analytics and other metrics to inform broader social media strategy.
A demonstrated talent for distilling complex policies and ideas into engaging digital content.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environments and rapid-response situations, including evenings and weekends as needed.

Preferred but not required
Graphic design, video production, or other creative competencies.
Experience with Asana, Trello, Basecamp, or similar project management tools.
Proficiency in a language other than English is a plus.
BOSTON RESIDENCY REQUIRED
Terms
Union/Salary Plan/Grade: Nonunion/MM2-7
Hours: 35 per week
