Elon Musk had asked his Twitter users on Sunday whether he should step down as the leader of the social media site. More than 17 million votes were cast and delivered a clear verdict: 57.5 percent said he should quit, in a Twitter “poll” that closed after 12 hours on Monday.

There are signs that Mr. Musk’s ownership and focus on Twitter are interfering with his other business ventures. Some investors in Tesla anxious that he is distracted at a critical time for the electric automaker.
Musk has been personally involved in working-level decisions from car styling to supply chain issues, and said last month he would reduce his time at Twitter, eventually finding a new leader to run it.
