当事人反映，由于商场厕所标识为英文和图案，他误进女厕被指责。据媒体报道，商场随即道歉并进行了优化整改。
An elderly man found himself in an awkward situation after going to the wrong restroom, where he was accused of indecency, because the restroom signs, presented in English and pictorial form, were confusing. Following the event, the mall issued an apology and promised to optimize and rectify their signage.

在网友发布的帖子中，公共卫生间的标识五花八门：有些是几何图形组合，比如向上或向下的三角形、水滴、斜线等；有些是艺术图案，比如京剧脸谱、敦煌壁画、动物剪影等。
Posts shared by netizens show a wide array of designs, from geometric shapes such as upward or downward triangles, droplets, and diagonal lines, to artistic representations like Peking Opera masks and animal silhouettes.
除了性别指引标识不清楚外，也有网友反映，一些景区、商场等场所卫生间标识是全英文标识，也有些位置隐蔽不易被发现。
In addition to unclear gender indicators, some users have reported signs in all-English or in hard-to-find locations.
实用性 vs 设计感
“别说老年人了，我一个年轻人有时候都认不出来，有几次都不敢进。”

公共卫生间标识是否需要统一规范
公共卫生间标识有统一标准吗？是否需要进行统一标识从而易于管理？
实际上，公共卫生间标识属于公共信息标志，国家有推荐性标准，但并不强制。

根据国家市场监督管理总局、国家标准化管理委员会发布的《公共信息图形符号 第1部分：通用符号》，公共卫生间图形符号为穿西服的男士与穿裙子的女士，颜色只能使用黑色、蓝色、棕色等。标识牌必须固定贴在门旁而不能贴在门上，防止门开关时导致上厕所的人看不到标识。
According to the standard on national public information graphic symbols, restroom symbols should depict a man in a suit and a woman in a dress, using colors such as black, blue, or brown. Signs must be fixed beside the door, not on it, to avoid being obscured when the door is opened or closed.
厦门大学新闻传播学院教授邹振东表示，公共卫生间标识看似小事，但其实关系到人们的日常生活。建议有关部门可以出台公共卫生间标识的“负面清单”，说明白哪些标识不能出现，为公共卫生间标识设置限定底线的同时也为创意给足空间。
Professor Zou Zhendong from the School of Journalism and Communication at Xiamen University said that while restroom signage may seem trivial, it is integral to everyday life. He recommended that relevant authorities issue a "negative list" for public restroom signs, clarifying unacceptable designs. This approach sets a baseline for signage while still allowing room for creativity.
