38 At The Garden chronicles the extraordinary ascendance of point guard Jeremy Lin during his landmark 2012 season with the New York Knicks. Lin, an undrafted Harvard graduate, shocked fans, stunned his teammates, and galvanized the Asian American community when he scored 38 points at Madison Square Garden against the Los Angeles Lakers. This performance launched the “Linsanity” craze.

A decade later, Lin’s stature as a groundbreaking cultural icon stands in stark relief to the string of hate crimes against the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community.  38 At the Garden recognizes a pivotal moment for Lin and celebrates a phenomenon that was bigger than basketball.

The film is in English with Chinese subtitles. We also encourage the audience to wear your favorite NBA jersey for the event. After the screening, the director of the film will also join online for discussion. The discussion will be in English. We will also have a prize giveaway for some lucky audience members.

About the director 关于导演:

Frank Chi is a filmmaker, artist and creative director at the intersection of art, politics and culture. His work helps lead narratives around inclusion and identity in American life. 38 AT THE GARDEN is his debut film, about the cultural significance of Jeremy Lin’s 2012 “Linsanity” run on the New York Knicks. Frank began his career on Barack Obama’s Media Team in 2008. He grew up in New Haven, CT and graduated from Bowdoin College. He lives in Los Angeles, CA.
