I finished most of her mystery books in Chinese, before I embarked on English
ones. Worth reading even if you know the ending, IMHO.

the abridged "great expectation", frankenstein, 39 steps, little women, agatha
christie, and jane austen which was an eye opener that start me to appreciate
and pay attention to the beauty of language and writing, then followed by a
load of classics. she didn't fascinate me any longer and i looked at her with
a new criticizing eye but always with fondness. you don't easily forget an
author who drove you around the whole city to get her 3 less popular novels at
a very high price of RMB in excha

我一开始是看一套longman有插图录音的简写本，那个录音磁带还有音乐伴奏，
到紧张处非常催进情节，可巧当时看的书除了福尔莫斯之后都没看过原文版，
对那些减缩的情节却仍记忆犹新，似乎有《双城记》，男主角在插图上画的
英俊潇洒，还有《Dracula》，比较恐怖，还有《Peter Pan》，着实喜欢了很
长时间。后来再看的一套是爸爸推荐/逼着看的名著，只记得有George Eliot,
The Mill of the Floss, 看得非常辛苦。
自己开始有钱买书了以后买的第一本是（不好意思）福尔莫斯全集，大大厚
本每天晚上躺在床上看，那时候英文非常半桶水，因为是躺在床上，还懒得
查字典，因此养成看书不查字典的坏习惯。后来想重温一下当年喜欢的翻译
作品，就买了几本哈代，哈代比福尔莫斯难懂多了，看完了之后决定暂时不
碰更多英文名著，狠狠地玩儿了一年，其中只有读一些朋友的Stephen King
和Michael Crichton之流。老实说我是没有胆子读Stepen King的，只有The
Stand读了一半多，实在受不了其中阴森的气氛（那个故事并不恐怖），愤愤
丢下。
这时候想起来，其实我
