Pianist, vocal coach, and conductor,Brendon Shapiro, is a champion of vocal music of the 20th and 21st centuries. He is passionate about the way music can help to shine a light on stories and perspectives that have not historically been represented on American stages, and he specializes in working closely with singers and composers to create performances that will communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
Brendon is a recent alumnus of LA Opera's Young Artist Program where he worked with such artists as Renée Fleming and Susan Graham and played a key role in the musical preparation for the world premiere of Matthew Aucoin's Eurydice, along with productions of La Traviata, El gato montés, La Clemenza di Tito, The Light in the Piazza, and Satyagraha. He returned to LA Opera in 2022 to work on Rhiannon Giddens’ and Michael Abels’ Omar.
He was Emerging Artist alum with Boston Lyric Opera where he has served as pianist and coach for Omar, Bluebeard’s Castle, The Rape of Lucretia, Pagliacci, and Cavalleria Rusticana. He also was the pianist for BLO’s video series entitled ‘B.’ which features music written by Asian composers and/or inspired by Asian cultures, as well as the world premiere of Omar Najmi's song cycle, ‘my name is Alondra,’ as part of BLO’s Poetry in Music initiative.

As a conductor and musical director, Brendon helps bring new works to life atCatalyst New Music, a company he co-founded with Omar Najmi, in 2022. They have workshopped Najmi’s operas This is Not That Dawn and En la ardiente oscuridad and started an art song development program called FUSE: Collaborations in Song. Brendon has also conducted at Opera Fayetteville (Second Nature), Boston Opera Collaborative (La Rondine, The Dangerous Liaisons), and MASS Opera (Miss Havisham’s Wedding Night, The Beautiful Bridegroom) and has served as assistant conductor at Boston Conservatory at Berklee (As One, The Island of Tulipatan, Susannah).
Brendon is the Executive Director of Boston Singers’ Resource, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing classical singers with the tools they need as they pursue their careers. While at BSR, Brendon has been developing new programs designed to provide more opportunities to emerging singers in the New England area. He has been on faculty as a vocal coach at Boston Conservatory at Berklee, University of Massachusetts Amherst, The Empowered Musician, and the Boston University Tanglewood Institute, and coaches extensively from his home in Malden, Massachusetts.

Jingyi Huang, a soprano, holds a Bachelor's degree from Sichuan Conservatory of Music and a Master's degree in Vocal Performance from Shanghai Conservatory of Music. In 2018 and 2020, she received the Graduate Performance Diploma and Master of Music in Vocal Performance from the Longy School of Music of Bard College. She has previously served as a young soprano at the Shanghai Opera House and the China National Opera & Dance Drama Theater, performing in numerous operas.
In February 2019, she portrayed the lead role of Maritza in the operetta "Countess Maritza". In April 2018, she collaborated with the Longy Symphony Orchestra, performing as the female lead Madame Goldentrill in Mozart's opera "Der Schauspieldirektor" (The Impresario). In April 2017, she worked with the Longy Symphony Orchestra once again, playing the lead role of Olympia in Offenbach's famous opera "Les contes d'Hoffmann" (The Tales of Hoffmann).
In 2019, she was invited twice by the New York Concert Artists & Associates to perform solo concerts at Carnegie Hall in New York. In 2014, she was selected as one of the 20 global artists for the ISING! International Vocal Music Festival. She achieved first place in the Vocal Division of the New York Golden Classical Music International Competition in 2019, as well as second place in the Worcester Music Competition in Massachusetts. Additionally, she secured second place in the International Vocal Competition organized by the American Protégé Music Organization in 2019, and reached the semifinals of the Lois Alba International Opera Competition in the same year.
In 2020, she established her own vocal studio in Boston and also worked as a vocal teacher at a Chinese school. Huang Jingyi has been interviewed and featured in various major international media outlets, including Sing Tao Daily, World Journal, Tencent News, as well as being shared by Sina, Yahoo, Sohu, and others.

Boston-based artist Omar Najmi splits his time between composition and performance, maintaining a busy schedule as an operatic tenor. His current season includes many exciting role debuts: Valcour in The Anonymous Lover with Boston Lyric Opera, Simon in the world-premiere of Adoration with Beth Morrison Projects, Ruggero in La Rondine with Opera on the James, and Alessandro in Il Re Pastore with Orpheus PDX. Other notable recent engagements include Shakur in Thumbprint with Portland Opera, Spearmint Lodge in the world-premiere of The Artwork of the Future with The Fresh Squeezed Opera Company, Rodolfo in La Boheme and Tito in La Clemenza di Tito with Opera Steamboat, and the title role in Joseph Summer’s Hamlet with Bulgaria’s State Opera Rousse. Najmi enjoys a long standing relationship with Boston Lyric Opera where he has appeared in over 15 productions, and where he began his career as an Emerging Artist (2013-2015). His other operatic engagements have included Opera Colorado, Chautauqua Opera, Annapolis Opera, Opera Saratoga, Opera Maine, Opera Fayetteville, Opera NEO, White Snake Projects, Odyssey Opera, Guerilla Opera, American Lyric Theater, Opera North, and more.
Najmi made his Carnegie Hall debut in 2018 as the tenor soloist in Mark Hayes’ Gloria . He has since returned as the soloist in Dan Forrest’s Requiem for the Living , and as a soloist in Talents of the World Inc.’s Caruso Tribute Concert. He has performed several times as a soloist with the touring concert Video Games Live, including an appearance with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra at the Red Rocks Amphitheater. Najmi has been the recipient of the Harold Norblom Award from Opera Colorado, the Stephen Shrestinian Award from Boston Lyric Opera, 2nd prize
from the Wilkinson Young Singers Fund, Lorraine Hunt Lieberson Fellowship from Emmanuel Music, 2nd place nationally in the Handel Aria Competition, and he has been a regional finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council auditions.
Najmi began his composition career with the production of his first opera, En la ardiente oscuridad, in 2019. After a run of sold-out performances, he was invited to serve as the first ever Emerging Composer in residence with Boston Lyric Opera, where he worked with Boston Youth Poet Laureate Alondra Bobadilla in the creation of the song cycle my name is Alondra .The piece received its live premiere on BLO’s Street Stage in 2021. In 2022, his motet The Last Invocation was premiered by Emmanuel Music. His recently-commissioned song cycle More Than Our Own Caves just received its premiere with Juventas New Music Ensemble. He is currently working on Jo dooba so paar - a short opera exploring the intersection of Queer and Muslim identity - which will be premiered as part of White Snake Projects’ Let’s Celebrate initiative. Najmi was a finalist in Atlanta Opera’s 96-Hour Opera Project where his opera The Portrait - created in collaboration with librettist Catherine Yu - received its premiere in June. In 2022, Najmi and Brendon Shapiro co-founded Catalyst New Music - an organization dedicated to fostering, developing, and producing new works. Catalyst’s first project - presented with the support of The Boston Foundation’s Live Arts Boston grant - was a concert performance of Najmi’s new opera This Is Not That Dawn , a drama set during and after the Partition of India.

Laura McHugh, a dramatic coloratura soprano “ready for heavenly ascent” (Boston Musical Intelligencer) lauded for her “superb, floating” sound (Melrose Free Press) recently won 1st Place in the Classical Singer National Competition, 1st Place in the Vermont Vocal Competition, and 2nd Place in Classical Idol (VOX New England). Known for her penchant for “hilarious interpretation” (Voce di Meche), she recently created comedic roles in two World Premiere Operas: The Reaper in Reap What You Soul (a ‘90s pop-diva inspired take on the Angel of Death) and Hannah in Non Motus (who panics when nature inevitably calls during an extended traffic jam). This season, she covered Rose in the East Coast premiere of Tobias Picker’s Awakenings with Odyssey Opera/Boston Modern Orchestra Project, and will appear as a soloist on the upcoming cast recording. A performer with strong musical theatre chops, she recently flexed her crossover muscles as Florinda in Tulsa Opera’s Into the Woods.
Recent credits include the titular roles inRusalka, Suor Angelica, and Gräfin Mariza, as well as Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), Mimì and Musetta (La bohème), Violetta (La traviata - partial), Countess Almaviva (Le Nozze di Figaro), Giulietta (Les Contes d’Hoffmann), Vitellia (La clemenza di Tito), and Mademoiselle Silberklang (The Impresario/Der Schauspieldirektor). She also performs Königin der Nacht/Queen of the Night in Die Zauberflöte/The Magic Flute. Laura recently made her European (and Wagnerian) debut as the Valkyrie Gerhilde in a touring production of Die Walküre in Sweden.
Laura appeared in Winterreise: In a New Light- a staged reinterpretation of Schubert’s Die Winterreise- which was awarded Vocal Recital of the Year by Lloyd Schwartz of the ARTery. She will soon make her debut as the soprano soloist in Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem/A German Requiem with Masterworks Chorale of Boston. Other notable oratorio credits include Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, Vivaldi Gloria, and Bach Magnificat. She can also be found performing as co-founder and resident soprano of chamber group The Excelsis Duo with wind player Joe LaRocca.
男高音歌唱家万兵传,先后毕业于上海音乐学院声乐表演硕士和美国Longy School of Music of Bard College歌剧表演艺术硕士。曾获得数项大奖:奥地利萨尔堡国际音乐比赛声乐组第一名、荷兰阿姆斯特丹国际艺术大师赛声乐第一名、美国门徒国际声乐比赛一等奖;并担任美国金牡丹艺术节国际音乐大赛声乐评委、北美校友好声音歌唱大赛声乐评委和中国好声音评委。先后主演过莫扎特歌剧《剧院经理》中的男主角ANGEL、奥芬.巴赫的歌剧《霍夫曼的故事》中的男主角霍夫曼、匈牙利作曲家卡尔曼的歌剧《马莉萨伯爵夫人》中的男主角TASSILO伯爵和中国歌剧《刘三姐》中的男主角阿牛哥,是活跃在北美地区的男高音歌唱家,从事声乐教育20年有余。2017年在波士顿创办个人声乐工作室,积极从事社会音乐教育,先后担任国际时尚旅游小姐大赛波士顿赛区声乐总监,波士顿布鲁克莱恩中文学校校长。
Bingchuan Wan, a well-known tenor singer, graduated from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music with a master's degree in vocal Performance and the Longy School of Music of Bard College in the United States with a master's degree in Opera Performance. He has won several awards, namely, the first place in the vocal group of the Salzburg International Music Competition in Austria, the first place in the vocal group of the Amsterdam International Masters of Art Competition in the Netherlands, and the first prize in the Disciple International Vocal Competition in the United States; Moreover, he served as the vocal judge of the Golden Peony Art Festival International Music Competition in the United States, the vocal judge of The Voice of the North American Alumni Singing Competition and the vocal judge of The Voice of China. Successively, he starred in the male protagonist Angel in Mozart's opera "Der Schauspieldirektor", Offen Hoffman, the actor in Bach's opera "Les Contes d'Hoffmann", Count Tassilo, the male protagonist in the Hungarian composer Kalman's opera "The Countess of Marisa" and A Niuge, the male protagonist in the Chinese opera "Liu Sanjie". As a tenor singer active in North America, he has been involved in vocal education for more than 20 years. In 2017, his personal vocal studio was founded in Boston, engaging in social music education passionately. Moreover, he served as the vocal director of the Boston Division of the Miss International Fashion Tourism Competition, and the principal of Brookline Chinese School in Boston.
