Mr. Russell Ellwanger
Tower Semiconductor CEO
Mr. Ellwanger has served as Tower Semiconductor Chief Executive Officer since May 2005. He has served as Director since September 2016, and serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Company’s subsidiaries: Tower Semiconductor Newport Beach Inc., Tower Partners Semiconductor Co., Ltd. and Tower Semiconductor San Antonio, Inc. He also served as a director of the Company between May 2005 and April 2013. Prior to Tower, from 1996 to 2005, he served in various executive positions with Applied Materials Corporation including Group Vice President, General Manager of the Applied Global Services (AGS) division, Group Vice President, General Manager of the CMP and Electroplating Business Group, and Corporate Vice President, General Manager of the Metrology and Inspection Business Group, during which he was based in Israel. He also served as Vice President of Applied Materials’ 300-mm Program Office in the US. In addition, Mr. Ellwanger served as General Manager of Applied Materials’ Metal CVD Division and Managing Director of CVD Business Development, during which he was based in Singapore. Prior to Applied Materials, he held various managerial positions at Novellus Systems, Inc. from 1992 to 1996 and at Philips Semiconductors from 1980 to 1992.
Dr. Avi Strum
Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Sensors & Displays Business Unit, Tower Semiconductor
Dr. Strum was appointed Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Sensors & Displays Business Unit in 2018, after serving as Vice President and General Manager (GM) of the CMOS Image Sensor Business Unit (BU) since 2005. Previously he was VP of Europe Sales and VP and GM of the Specialty Business Unit. He joined Tower in 2004 and served as GM of Tower’s design center in Netanya and Device and Integration Department Manager. In 2005, he was appointed GM of the CMOS sensor and non-volatile memory (NVM) BU. Prior to joining Tower, Dr. Strum served as President and COO of TransChip Inc. and previously served in various positions with Intel Corp., both in Israel and the US. He also served with Semi Conductor Devices (SCD) as R&D Manager and was in charge of all infrared detectors development. Dr. Strum received a Ph.D. and B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the Technion Israel Institute of Technology.
Dr. Marco Racanelli
Senior Vice President and General Manager of Analog Business Unit, Tower Semiconductor
Dr. Racanelli was appointed Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Analog Business Unit and Newport Beach Site Manager in 2018 after serving as Senior Vice President & General Manager (GM) of RF & High-Performance Analog Business Unit (BU) and Aerospace & Defense (A&D) BU since 2008. He has been serving as Newport Beach Site Manager since 2014. Previously, he served as GM of the Power BU and held various management positions with Jazz Semiconductor including VP of Technology & Engineering and A&D GM. Prior to Jazz, he held positions at Conexant Systems and Rockwell Semiconductor in the area of technology development. He helped establish industry leadership in SiGe, BiCMOS and MEMS technology, and built a strong design support organization. Prior to Rockwell, he worked at Motorola, Inc., where he contributed to bipolar, SiGe and SOI development for its semiconductor products sector. Dr. Racanelli received a Ph.D. and an M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, and a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from Lehigh University. He holds over 35 U.S. patents.
Dr. Benoit Dupont
Sensors and Display Marketing Director, Tower Semiconductor
Benoit Dupont is Tower Semiconductor Marketing Director for Sensors and Display Business Unit. He has been working in the image sensors field for over 20 years, starting in FillFactory and Cypress as Digital and CIS designer until 2005. He was a design leader and business developer at Caeleste until 2015 when he joined Pyxalis as head of Marketing and Sales until 2022. He holds a Graduate degree from PolyTec Montpellier as Electronic Designer and received his PhD in Physics on uncooled infrared image sensors design as part of LETI and ULIS (now Lynred), Grenoble, France.
Dr. Ed Preisler
Director of Technology Development, RF & HPA, Tower Semiconductor
Dr. Preisler has been involved with SiGe BiCMOS development since joining Tower Semiconductor in 2004 and has held the title of Director of Technology Development since 2012. He has served on the committees of the IEEE RFIC and BCTM conferences and as a member of the ITRS wireless roadmap bipolar device committee.
Dr. Preisler received a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from U.C. San Diego and a Ph.D. in Applied Physics from Caltech in 2003 with a thesis that focused on antimonide semiconductors for optoelectronics. After graduating he served as a post-doctoral researcher at the IBM T.J. Watson research lab working on crystalline oxides and high-K gate dielectrics.
He has authored or co-authored 32 papers in the field of compound and column IV alloy semiconductor processing and device development, and two book chapters on bipolar device physics and processing.
Mr. Naoki Okada
TPSCo Process Technology Center, Manager of Design Enablement Team
Mr. Okada was appointed Section Manager of PDK & IP for TPSCo in October 2014. Previously, from 2011 to 2014, he served as Section Manager of Design Enablement at Tower Semiconductor LTD Japan, Ltd. where he contributed to PDK development for various Tower technologies. Prior to joining Tower, from 2010 to 2011, he was employed by Micron Japan as Lead Engineer of Technology Development where he led several groups such as Design Platform Development, Device Technology, and others. From 2001 to 2010, Mr. Okada served as Lead Engineer of Micron’s Yield Enhancement group. Mr. Okada received his M.S. degree in Solid State Chemistry from Kumamoto University, Japan in 2001.
Mr. Lei Qin
Vice President of China Operations, Tower Semiconductor
Mr. Qin was appointed Vice President of China Operations in January 2020. Previously, he served as Senior Sales Director and China Country Manager. Prior to joining Tower Semiconductor in 2010, Mr. Qin spent five years with Grace Semiconductor as a Sales Director of China region. Prior to Grace, he was a Product Marketing Manager at Hua Hong NEC.
Mr. Qin received his Master’s Degree in Project Management from Zhejiang University, China and B.S. with dual majors in Mechanical & Electronic Engineering and International Trade from Shanghai University, China.
Mr. David Mistele
Director, PM BCD • Fab2-RF/MS R&D
Dr. David Mistele is Tower Semiconductor Director of Power Management R&D, he joined Tower in 2013. Prior to joining Tower Semiconductor in 2013, he worked as a Research Manager and Lecturer at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa from 2009-2013. Before, he served as Co-founder and technical advisor of an LEDbased start-up, and from 2004-2009 he was leading Development Projects with Vishay Optoelectronics Division while working as a Fab Process Manager in Yokneam, Israel. In the same Fab he worked before as Process Design supervisor with CyOptics Inc. on lasers and modulators for optical data communication. Dr. Mistele received his diploma in Physics from the Optoelectronics Dept. of the University of Ulm, Germany, and graduated as Dr.-Ing. in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology from the University of Hanover, Germany, on the topic of GaN-based transistors, before joining the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the Technion, Haifa as a Post-Doc Fellow. He has authored or co-authored some 45 publications, and received several honors and awards, mostly in the field of compound semiconductor physics and technology.
