它们在表达上有什么不同呢？
如果你要求在周五早上的时候工作是完成了的，应该说：Please do this before Friday
如果你要求工作在周五或之前完成，应该说：Please do this by Friday
In other words, using by is inclusive, it means do this on any day up to and including the day specified. Using before is non inclusive, it means that I expect it to be done when I arrive on Friday morning.
换句话说，用by是包括的，它的意思是干什么在某天之前或者包含那天。用before是不包含的，意思是我希望我周五早上一来你的工作是做完了的。
再来看两个例句：
最晚周五发给我
（Friday is the deadline，周五是截止日期)
周五之前发给我
（Friday is too late. I need it in advance of Friday，周五就太晚了，最迟周四晚上)
