Office Ladies (1): A Lovely Mean Guy
It was the third time this week that Sue had forgotten her lunch. She stood in the office kitchen, staring at the sad, empty counter, her stomach grumbling. "I appreciate the reminder," she muttered sarcastically, glancing at the sticky note her absent-minded self had left on the fridge: Don't forget your lunch!
Just then, her coworker Joe strolled in, casually munching on a sandwich. "Forgot again?" he asked, a smirk tugging at the corners of his mouth.
Sue shot him a glare. "I'm perfectly capable of managing my meals, thank you very much."
"Clearly," Joe said, eyeing her empty hands. "Maybe you should get a tattoo. Something like, 'Lunch: It's Important.'"
Sue crossed her arms, determined not to give him the satisfaction of a laugh.
"I could've stolen your lunch, you know," Joe teased, holding his sandwich just out of her reach. "Want me to set a reminder for tomorrow?"
She sighed. "I'll manage." But as Joe walked away, she mumbled to herself, "Maybe I'll just eat his lunch next time. He'll appreciate the reminder."
"Better yet," Sue finally decided, "I should take Joe's mockery in stride. After all, I am winning—I don't have to watch my weight."
