记者亲历北京小区防疫全过程:志愿者手速堪比电竞选手
Two confirmed COVID-19 cases were reported in the community where I live, in Beijing's Shunyi district, on May 8, thus leading to a lockdown and mass nucleic acid testing for ten consecutive days.
Being confronted with the virus within an arm's reach was very worrisome for me and my neighbors, though we've been reading the epidemic news for more than two years.
People were anxious, eager for updates and some even needed help during the lockdown, which inspired me to join the volunteer group in my community. My goal was simple — to seek mutual assistance from neighbors to ease the burden on the grassroots-level civil servants who were already under great pressure because of the sudden lockdown.
Within one day, more than 50 volunteers joined the WeChat group and we started our jobs right away. Some volunteered to help distribute epidemic prevention supplies to those who couldn't step outside the door, while others did the online chores of disseminating news and addressing people's needs. Online documents and spreadsheets were also created to better facilitate people's communication.
The ten-day lockdown turned out to bring more solidarity to our community. People began to trust each other more and we volunteers were also awarded two banners by the neighbors and government officials when we gathered together for a group picture.
