外媒报道苹果头盔，这一单词应该如何理解？

苹果于本周发布了其首个虚拟现实头盔Apple Vision Pro，在媒体上引发了不少讨论。一些人认为苹果的头盔售价太贵，应用场景也有限，因此很难成为现象级产品。昨天看到海外媒体The Conversation起了这么一个标题：Apple Vision Pro headset: what does it do and will it deliver?

标题里面deliver用得很好，单词最常见的意思是“运送，寄送”，比如“运输快递包裹”可以说deliver the package。除此之外，单词还有一个含义“兑现承诺”，比如有这么一句名言：Don't ever promise more than you can deliver, but always deliver more than you promise. （永远不要过度承诺，但要交付超出你承诺的东西。）它还有一个固定搭配deliver on your promise

标题中的deliver就来自于这一层含义，相当于“不负所望，履行诺言”。单词这一意思很灵活，在外媒报道中也经常能见到。比如上面关于苹果的文章中还有这么一句话：The Vision Pro is a gamble, as XR is often seen as something that promises but rarely delivers. （苹果的Vision Pro头盔是一场赌博，因为混合现实技术经常难以兑现一开始的承诺。）

又比如去年特拉斯在党内选举获胜后发表了演讲，其中有这么一句名言：We will deliver, we will deliver, we will deliver.

We will deliver. 意思相当于We will deliver (what we promised). 即“我们将会履行竞选时的承诺”，连用三个"we will deliver"可以起到排比作用，让语气更加强烈。

我们在写作中也可以灵活应用这一单词，比如在教育话题中可以说：

The education system is meant to equip students with practical skills and knowledge for their future careers, but all too often, it fails to deliver.

在科技话题中可以说：

For all the imperfections Apple’s new products may have, many consumers are still willing to splash out on them because they believe that the tech firm will deliver.
