Deep State?
Good conspiracy thrillers have no problem being snatched up by an avid reader like Joe.
From Joe: "With the CIA and the FBI in its pocket, the Deep State calls the shots behind the scenes. How do I know it? Don't ask."
With all due respect to Joe, he hasn't met the Sagan standard, namely, ECREE (Extraordinary Claims Require Extraordinary Evidence). We can't just take his word for it.
The CIA and the FBI are well known as bureaucratic minefields. Their agents can hardly go astray without catching flak. As the saying goes, the higher the monkey climbs, the more it shows its tail.
Meanwhile the congressional watchdog is mandated to look out for monkey business while monitoring the federal government.
Speaking of which, who might have the magic wand to orchestrate two million federal employees to serve a Deep State?
Civil servants are, in fact, not as sheepish as they appear to the uninitiated. Whistleblowers do pop up. Indeed, America has never run out of courageous whistleblowers who are willing to stick their necks out for the truth.
Whistleblowers' best friend is free press. Thanks to free press, not even a sitting president can prevent the media from sniffing around him. For one thing, free press rewards investigative journalism handsomely. Watergate is a good case in point.
I am looking forward to a Deep State-gate in the next New York Times bestseller that meets Joe's eyes.
