鳄鱼是非常古老的物种。最早的鳄鱼与恐龙共存进化于大约 9500 万年前的白垩纪晚期。它们总是让我与一些伏地魔式的水栖恐龙联系起来。在蜥蜴的世界，从微距上看起来它们就是大灭绝中幸存下来的恐龙。我怀疑是否有一些真的幸存至今，但以一种不起眼的形式展现——各种蜥蜴。知道吗蛇是由蜥蜴进化而来的，有些蛇仍然有未完全退化的腿的痕迹。大多数蜥蜴的舌头又短又圆。变色龙有细长的、可伸出的舌头，但不是分叉的。具有蛇状分叉舌头的蜥蜴是巨蜥、科莫多巨蜥，等中体型较大的肉食性蜥蜴。
Crocodilians are very ancient species. The earliest crocodilian, meanwhile, evolved around 95 million years ago, in the Late Cretaceous period, coexisted with dinosaurs. Their appearance always made me relating them to some low to the ground water-dwelling type dinosaurs. After getting into the lizards' world, at macro scale, seem to me they are the dinosaurs survived from the mass extinction. Could some survive to date but appear in a humble form - a great variety of lizards? Do you know that snakes are evolved from lizards? Some snake species still have traces of not completely degraded legs. Most of the lizards have short and round tongues. Chameleons have elongated, extrudable tongues yet not forked. The lizards with a serpent-like forked tongue are the carnivorous ones of a larger size in family Varanidae (Monitors, goannas, Komodo dragon) and Teiidae (Tegus, whiptails, caiman lizards).
