The United States is a country that is rich in natural beauty. Colorful deserts, snowcapped mountains, magnificent lakes, sandy beaches, and the majestic forests are all examples of America’s wilderness. In order to preserve these places for future generations to enjoy, President Lyndon Johnson signed the Wilderness Act on September 3, 1964. This law protected 9.1 million acres of federal lands and established a legal definition for the term “wilderness”. Come join us to learn about the history of the Wilderness Act, the national parks system, and environmental conservation in the USA. In addition, our speaker will talk about how he celebrates this month by getting out and visiting some of our state and national parks.
