上海美国中心的美中早期交往史系列讲座将继续为大家带来第24任美国国务卿威廉·亨利·苏厄德系列讲座。苏厄德是第一位访问中国的美国国务卿,他对推动早期美中关系,主要是美中人民之间的交流做出巨大贡献。在本系列的第二场讲座中,哈佛校友,独立学者刘显闻先生将为大家介绍美国宪法第13及14修正案,苏厄德环球旅行的中国站的趣闻,和推动早期中美关系历史性的时刻。这是本主题三场讲座中的第二场。
The Shanghai American Center continues the early U.S.-China relations lecture series featuring William H. Seward, the 24th United States Secretary of State. Seward was the first Secretary of State to visit China. He made significant contributions to promoting early U.S.-China relations, especially in people-to-people exchanges. In the second session, Harvard alumnus and scholar, Mr. Liu Xianwen will introduce Seward’s connections to the 13th and 14th Amendment to the United States Constitution, interesting stories of Seward’s visit to China, and historic moments that promoted early U.S.-China relations. This is the second of three sessions.

关于嘉宾 About the Speaker
刘显闻,哈佛校友,独立学者,研究领域为美国内战史,总统史,大选史,中美早期史,美国文化观察,中西文化比较等;已出版和在出版图书超过十二本;目前在哈佛大学进行美国大选史研究。
Liu Xianwen (Jefferson), Harvard alumnus, independent scholar, and researcher in the fields of the American Civil War, U.S presidential history, American election history, early Sino-US relations, American Cultural Observation, Comparative Studies of Oriental Culture, Occident Culture, and more; 12+ books published or being published; now researching American election history at Harvard University.

Masks are not currently required to attend Shanghai American Center events, but audience members are encouraged to feel comfortable wearing them if they wish. Please be sure to RSVP if you intend to come. Programs begin on time and seats are subject to space availability. If the room is full when you arrive, you might not be granted entry, even if you RSVP'd. We can only seat the first 80 guests at this time.

Doors will open and security screening will commence 15 minutes before the program starts. You must bring a valid physical photo ID in order to enter the Shanghai American Center (ShAC). Copies or pictures of IDs will not be accepted.

All belongings carried into the ShAC will be scanned during security screening. While guests may not bring laptop computers to Shanghai American Center programs, portable electronic devices, such as mobile phones, iPads and other tablets, and smartwatches are permitted.
