上海美国中心的美中早期交往史系列讲座将开启下一个主题：福布斯兄弟与早期中国贸易的故事。在中美《望厦条约》（1844）签订之前，美国新英格兰地区的商人来到中国进行贸易。从初期的干货生意到后来的鸦片走私，这些贸易商人积累了大量财富。福布斯兄弟是新英格兰地区早期中国贸易的代表人物。上海美国中心邀请哈佛校友，独立学者刘显闻先生在线带来系列讲座，为大家讲述这段故事，并带领大家线上参观位于麻州米尔顿市的罗伯特· 班内特· 福布斯故居博物馆。本系列有三场讲座，分别于11月3日，10日，17日通过Zoom线上进行。
The Shanghai American Center’s early U.S.-China relations lecture series will start its next chapter: Stories of the Forbes Brothers and the early U.S. - China Trade. Before the signing of the Treaty of Wangxia between China and the United States (1844), a handful American traders from New England came to China for trade. From the early dry goods business to the later opium smuggling, these traders accumulated a large amount of wealth. The Forbes brothers’ story is representative of this early U.S. - China Trade History. Join Harvard alumnus and scholar, Mr. Liu Xianwen virtually for a series of lectures about this part of the history and a virtual tour of Robert Bennet Forbes House in the Milton. This series has three sessions, which will be held online via Zoom on November 3rd, 10th, and 17th.

关于嘉宾 About the Speaker 

刘显闻，哈佛校友，独立学者，研究领域为美国内战史，总统史，大选史，中美早期史，美国文化观察，中西文化比较等；已出版和在出版图书超过十二本；目前在哈佛大学进行美国大选史研究。 
Liu Xianwen (Jefferson), Harvard alumnus, independent scholar and researcher in the fields of the American Civil War, U.S presidential history, American election history, early Sino-US relations, American Cultural Observation, Comparative Studies of Oriental Culture, Occident Culture, and more; 12+ books published or being published; now researching American election history at Harvard University.
