Why do people talk about Diversity and Inclusion?  What significance does it have?  In a diverse and inclusive social environment, everyone, regardless of their race and ethnicity, region, gender, belief, and gender orientation, can find and establish their voice.  All can fully accept and be proud of their uniqueness.

Join us at the Beijing American Center for the Opening of the Fourth Diversity & Inclusion Film Festival, jointly organized by 12 Diplomatic Missions, and for the film screening of Chinatown Rising. 

在20世纪60年代中期民权运动的背景下，一位来自旧金山唐人街的年轻居民用一台定焦16毫米的相机，以及当地电视台留下的胶片，将他的镜头对准了他所在的社区。这部未公开的精美影片的胶片长度总计超过2万英尺(时长10小时)。该片捕捉了一个分裂的社区为自决权而进行的斗争。《唐人街崛起》是一部关于亚裔美国人运动的纪录片，该片以站在这一历史性街区转型前沿的年轻居民的视角审视了这场运动。通过公开挑战老一辈的保守观点，他们在 20 世纪 60-80 年代的示威和抗议活动在社会权力更迭期间打破了唐人街以往的平静。四十五年以后，这些社会运动的参与人士在访谈中回忆了他们在应对社会变革需求时所扮演的角色和经历。
Against the backdrop of the Civil Rights Movement of the mid-1960s, a young San Francisco Chinatown resident armed with a 16mm camera and leftover film scraps from a local TV station, turned his lens onto his community. Totaling more than 20,000 feet of film (10 hours), this exquisite unreleased footage has captured a divided community's struggles for self-determination. Chinatown Rising is a documentary film about the Asian American Movement from the perspective of the young residents on the front lines of their historic neighborhood in transition. Through publicly challenging the conservative views of their elders, their demonstrations and protests of the 1960s-1980s rattled the once quiet streets during the community’s shift in power. Forty-five years later, in intimate interviews, these activists recall their roles and experiences in response to the need for social change.

电影为英文配音并配有中文字幕。放映后将连线该片导演乔希·查克，展开多元与包容相关话题的讨论，讨论用英文进行并配有中文翻译。
The movie is in English with Chinese subtitles.  After the screening, we will organize an online discussion with Director Josh Chuck on topics related to diversity and inclusion.  The discussion will be in English with Chinese interpretation.

You must bring a valid physical photo ID in order to enter the Beijing American Center (BAC).  Copies or pictures of IDs will not be accepted.  No large bags will be allowed into the BAC for this event.

*访客请勿携带笔记本电脑。便携式电子设备如手机，iPads和其他平板电脑，智能手表可以带进北京美国中心的活动。
*While portable electronic devices, such as mobile phones, iPads and other tablets, and smartwatches are permitted, guests may not bring laptop computers to Beijing American Center programs.
