Topic: “Miss Juneteenth" Film Screening and Discussion

Location: Guangzhou American Center, U.S. Consulate General Guangzhou
Juneteenth — or June 19 — is an annual holiday to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved Black Americans, celebrate the achievements and resiliency of Black Americans, and recommit to ensure racial justice, equity, and equality in the United States. At 2pm on June 15, Guangzhou American Center will show the film “Miss Juneteenth.” The setting of this film is Fort Worth, Texas, where there has been a tradition of commemorating the Juneteenth for many years, including through a beauty pageant. The 99-minute film tells the story of a former beauty queen and single mother who prepares her rebellious teenage daughter for the annual “Miss Juneteenth” pageant. The film is in English with English subtitles. An American officer will lead a short discussion afterwards.
This event will be conducted in English. The Guangzhou American Center will only seat 40 visitors for this event. The event is first come, first served, and will close when the event is full. Reservation does not guarantee entry. Thank you for your understanding.
