Did you know that until 1973, in the United States every LGBTQI+ person was viewed by the medical establishment as sick and in need of a cure?  The classification of being gay as a mental illness was used to justify discrimination against LGBTQI+ persons.  As long as this group of people were “sick”, it would be impossible for them to receive equal rights as any other citizen.  It is well known history that the LGBTQI+ civil rights movement started in the United States with the Stonewall Riots in the summer of 1969.  The documentary Cured is about another less known, but equally important battle: the push by activists to convince the American Psychiatric Association (APA) to declassify homosexuality as a mental illness.  Come and learn more about this unique and important episode of American history and learn how activists worked to achieve this monumental victory.  The film is in English with Chinese subtitles.

Doors will open 30 minutes before the program starts. Please try to arrive at least 15 minutes before the program starts to allow enough time to go through security. You will NOT be admitted if you arrive half an hour after the program has started.
