Do you want to learn more about the history of the United States? Join us for a series of informative and engaging talks as we explore U.S. history. 

Session 4: (Re)Defining Freedom: The American Revolution, 1761-1789 
Friday, Mar 10, 2023, 3:00-4:30p.m. 

This session will discuss the pivotal events that marked the move toward American independence, how American forces won the Revolutionary War, and the changes in economic and religious freedom after the Revolution.  We will explore how notions of equality and individual liberty (for some) became essential to America's definition of freedom.  Finally, we will tackle important and difficult questions, including what happened to those Americans who remained loyal to the British crown during the war and how the Revolution diminished the freedoms of Native Americans and the hundreds of thousands of enslaved Africans living in the new United States.  

Dr. Jeremiah Jenne is an American writer and historian based in Beijing. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of California, Davis. His essays and articles have appeared in a variety of local and international journals and newspapers. 

This event will be conducted in English.
