The American Diplomat explores the lives and legacies of three African American ambassadors — Edward R. Dudley, Terence Todman and Carl Rowan — who pushed past historical and institutional racial barriers to reach high-ranking appointments in the Truman, Eisenhower and Kennedy administrations.  

《美国外交官》探讨了三位非裔美国大使——爱德华·R·达德利（Edward R. Dudley）、特伦斯·托德曼（Terence Todman）和卡尔·罗文（Carl Rowan）——的生平和遗产。他们克服了历史和体制上的种族障碍，在杜鲁门、艾森豪威尔和肯尼迪政府中获得了高级职位。

At the height of the civil rights movement in the United States, they were asked to represent the best of American ideals abroad while facing discrimination at home.  They did so while working at the U.S. State Department, which fiercely maintained and cultivated the Foreign Service’s elitist character and was one of the last federal agencies to desegregate.

在美国民权运动的鼎盛时期，他们被要求在国外代表美国最好的理想，同时却在国内面临歧视。他们是在美国国务院工作时遭遇这种情况的，该部门极力维护和培养外交人员的精英性格，是最后一批废除种族隔离的联邦机构之一。

Through rare archival footage, in-depth oral histories, and interviews with family members, colleagues and diplomats, the film paints a portrait of three men who created a lasting impact on the content and character of the Foreign Service and changed American diplomacy forever.

通过罕见的档案片段、深入的口述历史，以及对家人、同事和外交官的采访，影片描绘了三个男人的肖像，他们对外交人员的组成和特质产生了持久的影响，并永远改变了美国的外交。

The film is in English with Chinese subtitles. There will also be a discussion after the screening.

Doors will open 30 minutes before the program starts. Please try to arrive at least 15 minutes before the program starts to allow enough time to go through security. You will NOT be admitted if you arrive half an hour after the program has started.
